Job Summary & Requirements The Patient Support Assistant is a value-added position to support patient flow process by greeting and assisting patients, as well as assisting with unit needs. The Patient Support Assistant position requires professionalism, critical thinking, and sensitivity. Education: Completion of high school diploma or equivalent required Experience Minimum 1 year experience in customer service, forward facing and interactions with the public is an asset Emergency Department experience an asset Non Violent Crisis Prevention (CPI) training an asset Competencies: Self-starter with a positive nature, pleasant disposition, a can-do attitude and be a strong team player Demonstrated excellence in interpersonal and customer service skills Excellent verbal/written communication skills Effective problem solving and critical thinking skills Ability to prioritize workload with varying deliverables Ability to work both within a team and independently with minimal supervision Must maintain confidentiality pertaining to patients and staff Ability to work flexible hours including weekends, afternoons, evening and midnight shifts Adherence to policy and procedures related to health and safety and patient safety Ability to push and pull wheeled equipment and moveable carts Responsibilities include but not limited to the following: Provide a high degree of service to the patients, visitors, staff, and physicians Perform AIDET when interacting with patients, visitors, families (A-Acknowledge, I-Introduce, D-Duration, E-Explanation, T-Thank You) Exhibit professionalism and respect in all forms of communication Adhere to RVH Code of Conduct and Privacy Pledge Comply with evidence-based practices and standards (including Infection Prevention and Control (IPAC) and use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), safe use of equipment Responsible for the safe and efficient movement of patients via a wheelchair, stretcher or bed which may include patients with oxygen tanks, intravenous pumps, and other equipment Transport patients/visitors needing assistance via wheelchair dispatched by a staff person Provide wayfinding and other information to patients and visitors Respond to call for assistance with patient transportation by stretcher using the information provided by the staff person Confirm patient identifiers prior to all patient transportation tasks Communicate and collaborate with other members of Team RVH, such as nursing, clerical, logistics, etc.
