This role focuses on social connection, supervision, meaningful activities, outings, respite, and non-hands-on support. Important - Companionship Only: This is not a PSW position and does not include hands-on personal care. Companions will not be responsible for bathing, toileting, dressing, transfers, medication administration, or other PSW/personal support duties. Scheduling & Availability • Shifts are offered based on current client needs and availability. • Employees are expected to remain generally available during the availability they have declared and to respond to scheduling communication. • Some shifts are 1-2 hours, and applicants must be comfortable regularly accepting shorter shifts. • Travel throughout the Niagara Region is required. • Hours are not guaranteed and will vary based on client needs. 1:1 Companionship Responsibilities • Provide social interaction, conversation, and companionship. • Offer a reassuring presence and observe and report safety concerns to the SHHC office. • Accompany clients on walks, outings, errands, or appointments as directed. • Engage clients in games, hobbies, conversation, and other stimulating or meaningful activities. • Provide non-hands-on reminders and encouragement with daily routines. • Prepare simple meals and snacks. • Complete light tidying related to the client and companionship visit. • Provide companionship respite so a family member or caregiver can leave the home. • Support clients who may be lonely, isolated, or benefit from having someone present. • Report relevant changes, concerns, or observations to the SHHC office in accordance with company procedures. This Role Does Not Include • Bathing, showering, or personal hygiene assistance • Toileting or incontinence care • Hands-on dressing or grooming assistance • Lifting or transferring clients • Medication administration • Clinical or nursing tasks • Any other duties requiring PSW-level hands-on personal care Requirements • Current CPR/First Aid • Abstract License • Proof of Automobile Insurance • Vulnerable Sector Check • Up-to-date immunizations • TB test from the last 1-3 years • Reliable transportation and ability to travel throughout the Niagara Region • Strong reliability, punctuality, communication, and professionalism • Comfort working independently in clients' homes and community settings Who This Role Is Ideal For • Someone reliable, compassionate, patient, and comfortable spending one-on-one time with clients • Individuals committed to working within their stated availability • Those comfortable accepting short 1-2 hour shifts • People who enjoy community-based work and traveling between clients • Individuals looking for flexible or supplemental hours • Someone who is independent, proactive, observant, and responsive to communication Position Details Work Location: In person - client homes and community settings throughout the Niagara Region Benefits: Flexible schedule; mileage reimbursement where applicable Apply through LinkedIn, email [email protected] or drop in to the Marotta Family Hospital at 1200 Fourth Avenue Unit 1, St. Catharines and drop off your resume. Requirements
