Role Description The Medical Office Assistant is a full-time, on-site role based at Scurfield Medical Centre in Winnipeg, MB. In this position, the individual will greet patients, manage check-in and check-out processes, answer phone calls, and respond to patient inquiries in a professional manner. Daily responsibilities include scheduling and confirming appointments, maintaining accurate patient records, and coordinating communication between patients and healthcare providers. The role also involves verifying insurance information, processing forms, handling payments, and supporting physicians with administrative tasks such as preparing charts and organizing documentation. The Medical Office Assistant helps ensure smooth clinic operations by maintaining a clean, organized reception and work area and following clinic policies and privacy regulations. Qualifications Strong phone etiquette and patient-facing communication skills, with the ability to provide courteous, clear information and support. Proficiency in appointment scheduling and calendar management using medical office software or electronic health record systems. Working knowledge of medical terminology and comfort navigating clinical documentation in a primary care environment. Experience with insurance verification, patient billing processes, and basic understanding of healthcare coverage. Administrative assistance skills, including data entry, filing, record maintenance, and handling confidential information responsibly. Attention to detail, organizational skills, and the ability to manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced medical office. Basic computer literacy (e.g., EMR systems-accuro preferred, email, word processing) and willingness to learn new software tools. Previous experience in a medical office or clinic setting, and completion of a Medical Office Assistant or related healthcare administration program is an asset. Bilingual (French speaking) an asset
