Job Title: Python Backend Engineer Job Type : Contract Client Location: Toronto, ON Work Arrangement: Hybrid (2-3 days onsite/week) Duration: 12+ months Pay Rate: DOE Role Overview We are looking for skilled Python Backend Engineers to build and scale high-performance backend systems. The role will focus on API development, platform engineering, and system design while supporting enterprise-grade, scalable, secure financial platforms. Key Responsibilities Design, develop, and maintain scalable backend services using Python. Build and manage RESTful APIs and backend integrations. Contribute to platform engineering initiatives focused on reliability and scalability. Lead and participate in system design discussions for distributed systems. Collaborate with frontend, DevOps, and product teams to deliver end-to-end solutions. Optimize backend services for performance, security, and observability. Participate in code reviews and follow engineering best practices. Required Skills & Qualifications Strong experience with Python backend development. Hands-on experience designing and developing REST APIs, JSON, and OpenAPI. Strong system design experience, including scalability, fault tolerance, and performance. Experience with platform engineering or building shared backend platforms. Strong understanding of SQL and NoSQL databases. Experience with AWS, Azure, or GCP. Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines, Git, and DevOps practices. Bachelor’s or Master’s degree from a Canadian university or college. Strong communication and problem-solving skills. Preferred Qualifications Financial services or fintech experience. Experience with microservices architecture. Docker and Kubernetes experience.
