About SmartD Technologies Founded in 2018, SmartD is seeking to disrupt the established century-old industry of electrical motor control. We are a Series A-funded team of innovators based in downtown Montreal, scaling a product that will save energy and be used by millions. With strategic partners on board and a clear vision, we are focused on execution and bringing real value to our customers. If you are an expert in ERP implementation and business process design, passionate about making a growing manufacturing business run on clean data and sound processes, and want to work with a small, dedicated, and effective team, we invite you to join our mission. Most analyst roles give you one system and one function. This one gives you an ERP implementation to shape, a finance team to support, sales and operations teams to partner with, and a mandate to make the whole thing run better. The Impact of This Role At SmartD, we value individual initiative and technical execution. In this position, you will: Shape How SmartD Runs (first 10–12 months): Be the business-side lead on our ERP implementation — not configuring the system, but making sure it gets configured right. You will map how SmartD actually works, translate that into clear requirements for our implementation partner, and own the call on when to adapt the business and when to adapt the system. Own the Manufacturing-to-Accounting Chain: Build and maintain the structure the whole company runs on — part master, bills of materials, routings, operations, and work centres — and make sure work orders, job costing, WIP, inventory movements, and variance accounts land correctly in the GL. Enable Sustainability: Play a key role in scaling a product that significantly reduces global industrial energy consumption. Become the Reference: Past go-live, be the analyst the Director of Finance turns to for the numbers behind a decision, the one Sales and Operations turn to when a process is broken, and the person who builds the reporting and automation that makes every team faster. What You Bring ERP Implementation Experience — the single most important requirement: You have lived a go-live, not read about one. You do not need to have led the project, but you were close enough to the core to know how the decisions got made, what got missed, and what it costs to fix later. Ideally, you became your finance team's go-to ERP person — the one people came to with "how do I do this in the system?" or "why doesn't this report tie out?" Business & Process Expertise: End-to-end command of the order lifecycle — quote, order entry, planning, purchasing, production, inventory, shipping, invoicing, and the accounting behind each step. Strong process-mapping skills in a manufacturing environment, fluency in the BOM-to-production chain (taking a bill of materials through to routings, operations, and work orders), and the judgment to align business processes with ERP-native processes rather than customizing around every habit. Accounting & Finance Foundation: Solid grounding in accounting fundamentals and the month-end close (GL, AP/AR, accruals, reconciliations), plus real understanding of manufacturing cost accounting — labour, overhead absorption, WIP, standard vs. actual costing, and how each lands as a journal entry. Excel to a high standard, and the ability to turn data into a recommendation a decision actually gets made on. Experience: 3–5 years in a business analyst, financial analyst, FP&A, ERP analyst, or finance/operations role. Experience in a manufacturing environment is required; electronics manufacturing and prior exposure to Epicor are strong assets. The depth of your ERP experience matters far more than the seniority of your title on the project. Technology & AI Mindset: Genuinely curious about technology and quick to know a tool better than anyone else. Practical understanding of how AI can be applied to business processes, and eager to use it daily to automate reporting, documentation, and data work. AI is part of how we work at SmartD, not an experiment. Language: Professional English is required to work with our ERP implementation partner and our international suppliers and customers; French is required for day-to-day collaboration with our Montreal-based Finance, Sales, and Operations teams. Mindset: A problem-solver who is comfortable with ambiguity, takes ownership without being asked, and wants to build things properly in a fast-paced, high-growth environment. Benefits & Work Environment Health & Security: Comprehensive coverage including Extended Health Care, Disability Insurance, and Life Insurance. Time Off: 4 weeks of paid vacation (PTO) from day one. Flexibility: A hybrid work environment with a focus on results. Close to the Work: We spend the majority of our time on-site at our 425 rue Guy office. In this role that proximity matters — you cannot map a production process from a spreadsheet. Being steps away from the lab, the floor, and your stakeholders is how this work gets done right. Commute: Conveniently located a 10-minute walk from Lucien-L'Allier (Orange line) and with immediate access to bus lines 35, 36, and 71. Our Hiring Process We respect your time and maintain a transparent, 3-step process: Introductory Call (20 min): A general discussion via Google Meet to align on interest and fit. Discussion with the Director of Finance (30 min): A deep-dive into your ERP, process, and cost accounting experience via Google Meet. On-Site Interview (1 hour): A working session with your future colleagues across Finance and Operations, and a tour of our lab.
