Southern Railway of Vancouver Island (SVI) is the operating railroad for Vancouver Island freight and potential passenger services and works under a haulage arrangement with Southern Railway of British Columbia Limited (SRY). SVI provides rail freight services to various customers on Vancouver Island via Transload operation based in (Nanaimo) Wellcox yard offering connections to North American Railroads (Canadian National, Canadian Pacific, Burlington North Santa Fe, and Union Pacific) who have the ability to reach across the continent. SVI is the rail operator for the Island Corridor Foundation (ICF) and is well positioned to operate any future or potential rail operations which may arise, this includes expanding Transload Operations, Freight, Tourism, Passenger or Commuter trains.

What you’ll do

The incumbent is responsible for operating and repairing various railroad maintenance and on-track machinery, including tampers, brush cutters, backhoes, and cranes. They must also complete written forms and reports while assisting in the overall maintenance and operations of the railroad.

Requirements

Candidates must possess a minimum grade 12 diploma, be CROR qualified, and hold a valid Class 3 BC Driver's License. Experience as a crane operator is preferred, along with the physical ability to perform manual labor and availability to work any shift, 24/7.
