Role Description This full-time, on-site role for HVAC and Refrigeration Technicians is based at Southlake Health in Newmarket, ON. Technicians install, maintain, and repair heating, ventilation, air conditioning, and refrigeration systems across hospital and clinical facilities, ensuring safe and reliable environmental conditions for patients, visitors, and staff. Daily responsibilities include inspecting equipment, performing preventive maintenance, diagnosing and troubleshooting mechanical, electrical, and refrigeration issues, and completing timely repairs in accordance with safety standards and regulatory requirements. The role involves collaborating with other facilities and clinical teams to minimize downtime, documenting work performed, and supporting capital projects and upgrades to building systems. Technicians are expected to respond to service calls, participate in on-call rotations as required, and contribute to continuous improvement of facility operations. Qualifications Strong mechanical and diagnostic skills, including troubleshooting HVAC and refrigeration systems. Knowledge of building systems and related trades, including plumbing and preventive maintenance practices. Solid understanding of electrical principles and safe working practices with electricity in building environments. Relevant environmental and safety credentials, such as EPA or equivalent refrigerant handling certification, and familiarity with applicable codes and regulations. Completion of a recognized HVAC/Refrigeration technician program, apprenticeship, or trade certification (e.g., 313A/313D or local equivalent). Experience in healthcare, institutional, or commercial facilities is an asset. Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, schematics, and equipment manuals. Strong communication skills, attention to detail, and ability to work both independently and within multidisciplinary teams. Demonstrated commitment to safety, infection control, and high-quality service in patient-focused environments.
