This is an exciting opportunity to be part of a new team supporting transitional aged youth (aged 18 to 29) with first-time experience of psychosis, chronic schizophrenia or schizoaffective disorder. Funded by the Slaight Family Foundation the Recovery and Reintegration Program is a partnership between St. Joseph’s Health Centre (Unity Health) and LAMP Community Health Centre; focused on improving the physical, mental and social well-being of individuals in need in the West End of Toronto. St. Joseph's Mental Health and Addictions Service is seeking a temporary part time (3 days per week) Recreation Therapist. This is an 18 month contract reporting to the manager of Outpatient Mental Health and Addictions. Duties & Responsibilities The primary role of a Recreation Therapists is to provide services which utilize assessment, functional intervention, education, skill development and recreation participation to enable persons with physical, cognitive, emotional, spiritual and/or social limitations to acquire and/or maintain the skills, knowledge and behaviors that will allow them to enjoy their leisure optimally, build on strengths and to function independently with the least amount of assistance and participate as fully as possible in society. This Recreation Therapist will work independently with clients at both program sites, and out in community at clients’ homes, libraries, etc. The Recreation Therapist will also be integral to organizing regular group programming for clients at both St. Joseph’s and LAMP CHC sites. Works effectively as a member of an interprofessional team, collaborating with other disciplines to provide comprehensive patient care Plans, coordinate and facilitate therapeutic groups Supports clients to identify and connect to meaningful social and vocational activities in the community to aid recovery Identifies and addresses educational needs for patients and their families Demonstrates commitment to ongoing professional development in order to continue to provide optimal patient care Is committed to and participates in ongoing quality improvement and/or research in the organization Provides patient care in accordance with all professional and organizational standards Is committed to providing anti oppressive and accessible care for all patients Qualifications Member of a recognized Therapeutic Recreation Association (i.e. Therapeutic Recreation Ontario, The American Therapeutic Recreation Association, The Canadian Therapeutic Recreation Association); CTRS or TRO Registered; Must hold a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Therapeutic Recreation from a recognized University, or health-related undergraduate degree and Georgian post-graduate certificate in Therapeutic Recreation Knowledge of Recreation Therapy assessment and therapeutic skills, interventions, various leisure activities, activity analysis, community integration resources and planning, individual and group facilitation techniques, protocol development, documentation, and volunteer utilization; Knowledge of various Recreation Therapy assessment tools and techniques; Knowledge of an individualized and systematic process to gather, analyze and interpret data; Understanding of documentation and outcome measures; Knowledge of Recreation Therapy program evaluation measures and outcome measures; Knowledge of current Therapeutic Recreation models and Standards of Practice for provincial and national affiliations; Knowledge of current Therapeutic Recreation literature, resources, standards, trends and research; Experience in Mental Health settings is preferred Excellent communication, critical thinking and interpersonal skills Proven flexibility and adaptability in a fast-paced environment Excellent time management, organizational and prioritization skills as relates to patient care Demonstrated advocacy, commitment to and involvement with profession preferred (e.g. involvement with professional association, representation on relevant committees) Potential candidates who do not meet all preferred qualifications are still encouraged to apply . Requirements

Requires a bachelor’s degree in Therapeutic Recreation or a health-related undergraduate degree plus a Georgian postgraduate certificate in Therapeutic Recreation, along with membership in a recognized therapeutic recreation association and CTRS or TRO registration. Candidates should have knowledge of recreation therapy assessment, interventions, group facilitation, community resources, documentation, and outcome measures; mental health experience is preferred.
