Contract opportunity for an experienced commercial leader to provide executive advice, lead a commercial services function and oversee commercial, financial and contractual matters across major infrastructure programs for a Metro Vancouver public-sector organization. Hybrid working arrangement Attendance at operating-company locations and project sites as needed What & Why: Our client is seeking a senior commercial leader to take on an embedded Director, Commercial Services assignment. You will lead the function and its team day to day, helping major infrastructure programs make timely, well-supported decisions on procurement, contracts, financial exposure, risk and delivery. Your work will include developing commercial strategies, advising executives, supporting negotiations, managing contract changes and addressing claims and disputes. You will help align program delivery with financial planning, sourcing, legal and risk-management requirements while strengthening the commercial function’s capabilities and operating practices. Who: You will collaborate with executive leadership, program directors, project managers, strategic sourcing and contract-management teams, finance, capital planning, legal, risk management and operating-company stakeholders. The assignment requires sustained availability and close integration into the client’s leadership, governance and program teams. You: You are an experienced commercial leader who combines financial judgment, contract expertise and practical team leadership. You can assess complicated commercial situations, explain options and trade-offs, negotiate effectively and give executives clear recommendations. You have led multidisciplinary or matrixed teams and can establish accountabilities, develop capability and resolve issues across organizational boundaries. You bring discretion and sound judgment to sensitive, high-profile decisions. Critical Experience Requirements: At least 10 years of progressive experience across commercial management, financial management, supply chain management, strategic procurement and contract management, preferably on large-scale capital infrastructure programs. A university degree in Engineering and/or Business together with an industry-specific designation, or an equivalent combination of relevant education and experience. Expert capability in contract management, strategic sourcing, supplier relationship management, commercial negotiation and mediation. Commercial and financial leadership, including cost control, claims management and assessment of contractual impacts. Advanced financial and business acumen, including scenario assessment, commercial models, forecasts and risk exposure. Leadership of multidisciplinary and matrixed teams in complex environments. Strong stakeholder management, facilitation, conflict resolution and change management. Knowledge of major infrastructure delivery concepts and procurement models. Political acuity and discretion in high-profile, time-sensitive environments. Responsibilities: Lead and develop the Commercial Services function and team. Advise program and executive leadership on scope, schedule, budget, commercial risk and stakeholder matters. Develop commercial options, recommendations and negotiation positions. Support claim avoidance, early dispute resolution and complex commercial negotiations. Integrate commercial and financial analysis into program decisions, governance gates and risk assessments. Collaborate on procurement strategies, supplier matters, contract administration and contract changes. Maintain accurate, auditable commercial records and decision documentation. Clarify decision rights, accountabilities, resource requirements and escalation paths. Establish practical measures for commercial performance, financial outcomes and benefits realization. Support orderly transition and knowledge transfer at the end of the assignment. Compensation: $120 - $150 per hour.
