Job details

Senior DDI / DNS Infrastructure Engineer Client: Bank Location: Toronto / Scarborough, ON Contract: Initial 6 months, with strong potential for 1–2+ years of extension Work Arrangement: Primarily remote, with occasional onsite requirements for infrastructure lab work, testing, and project activities. Pay Rates: T4: 65-77/hr IC: 80-90/hr The Opportunity We are looking for a highly motivated, hands-on Senior DDI / DNS Infrastructure Engineer to take ownership of enterprise DNS, DHCP, and IP Address Management (IPAM) infrastructure within a large-scale global environment. This is a specialized infrastructure engineering position focused almost entirely on DDI platforms and appliances. We are looking for someone who understands how DNS works under the hood—not simply someone who knows how to manage records through tools like Infoblox or BlueCat. You will play an important role in supporting and modernizing business-critical DNS infrastructure, including a major transition from traditional DNS architecture to DNS Anycast, involving approximately 80,000 subnets and 60,000 hosts. The ideal candidate is a technically strong, self-sufficient engineer who can independently configure, troubleshoot, optimize, and maintain DNS infrastructure using both management platforms and command-line tools. If you enjoy solving complex DNS challenges, working directly with infrastructure configurations, and engineering enterprise-scale DDI environments, this is an opportunity to make a significant impact. What You'll Be Responsible For DDI Infrastructure Ownership: Engineer, configure, maintain, and support enterprise DNS, DHCP, and IPAM platforms and appliances across a large global environment. DNS Engineering & Configuration: Work directly with DNS configurations, zone files, SOA records, resource records, zone transfers, and underlying DNS server settings. DNS Troubleshooting: Independently investigate and resolve complex DNS issues using command-line utilities such as dig, nslookup, and other diagnostic tools. DNS Architecture: Design, implement, and optimize authoritative and recursive DNS environments, forwarding, delegation, caching, redundancy, and high availability. DNS Anycast Modernization: Contribute to a major infrastructure initiative transitioning traditional DNS architecture to DNS Anycast. DDI Platform Management: Support and engineer enterprise DDI solutions, ideally Cygna Labs / Sapphire IMS IPControl, Infoblox, or BlueCat. DHCP Engineering: Configure and support DHCP infrastructure, including failover, client classes, vendor options, PXE, and BOOTP. IP Address Management: Manage IPv4/IPv6 addressing, subnet allocation, capacity planning, and IPAM configurations. Cloud & Hybrid DNS: Support integrations and hybrid DNS architectures across AWS, Azure, and CDN platforms such as Akamai and Cloudflare. Appliance Management: Perform infrastructure configuration, maintenance, upgrades, lifecycle management, and troubleshooting of enterprise DDI appliances. Automation & Scripting: Maintain and enhance existing Python and Bash scripts used for infrastructure automation and operational support. Production Support: Provide advanced troubleshooting, root cause analysis, and technical support for business-critical infrastructure. Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work with routing, switching, security, and load-balancing teams when required to support broader infrastructure initiatives. Required Technical Experience DNS Engineering – Critical Requirement Strong hands-on experience engineering and supporting enterprise DNS infrastructure. Deep understanding of DNS fundamentals and the underlying DNS engine, beyond graphical management platforms. Experience working with DNS configuration files, zone files, SOA records, DNS resource records, and configuration settings. Strong knowledge of authoritative versus recursive DNS, forwarding, delegation, caching, zone transfers, and DNS resolution. Experience with ISC BIND and/or Microsoft DNS. Ability to independently troubleshoot DNS issues using command-line utilities such as: dig nslookup dig +trace named-checkconf named-checkzone Ability to interpret DNS query results and identify configuration, resolution, delegation, and zone-related issues. DDI Platforms & Appliance Engineering 8+ years of network/infrastructure engineering experience, including approximately 5+ years of hands-on DDI experience. Significant experience working directly with enterprise DNS/DHCP/IPAM platforms and appliances. Experience with one or more of the following: Cygna Labs / Sapphire IMS IPControl (preferred). Infoblox. BlueCat. BT / Cygna Labs Diamond IP. Experience configuring, maintaining, troubleshooting, and supporting DDI appliances in large enterprise environments. Ability to understand what happens behind the scenes when changes are made through a DDI management platform. Additional Technical Requirements Strong DHCP fundamentals, including DHCP architecture, failover, BOOTP, PXE, and vendor options. Hands-on IPAM experience, including IPv4, IPv6, subnet management, and capacity planning. Experience with DNS migrations, infrastructure modernization, and high-availability configurations. DNS Anycast experience is a significant advantage. Exposure to AWS and/or Azure DNS and hybrid cloud environments. Familiarity with Akamai, Cloudflare, or other CDN technologies. Working knowledge of Python and/or Bash scripting. Strong Linux/Unix troubleshooting capabilities. Ability to independently investigate technical issues, perform root cause analysis, and document solutions. Nice to Have Experience with DNS security, DNSSEC, DNS Firewall, SPF, DKIM, DMARC, and CAA. Experience with F5 GTM, GSLB, traffic steering, and load-balancing technologies. Previous experience in banking, financial services, or other business-critical enterprise environments. Experience supporting global infrastructure with high availability and 24/7 operational requirements. CCNA, CCNP, or DDI-related certifications. Familiarity with ITIL, ITSM, enterprise change management, and technical documentation. What Makes Someone Successful in This Role? A genuine DNS engineer who understands the underlying technology rather than relying exclusively on a graphical interface. Someone comfortable working directly with DNS configurations, zone files, and command-line utilities. An independent problem-solver who can diagnose complex issues without needing step-by-step instructions. Someone with substantial hands-on DDI appliance experience. A motivated engineer who takes ownership of infrastructure and enjoys working on large-scale modernization initiatives. Important: This is not a traditional routing and switching Network Engineer position. The role is approximately 99% focused on DDI infrastructure, DNS/DHCP/IPAM engineering, and supporting enterprise appliances. Strong foundational DNS knowledge and hands-on infrastructure experience are essential.
