Position: Software Test Engineer Location: Toronto, ON Job ID#: RQ11375 Duration: 4 Months Role Overview We are seeking an experienced Systems Testing / QA Specialist to lead and execute comprehensive testing activities across enterprise-scale applications and systems. The successful candidate will be responsible for developing testing strategies, creating test plans and test cases, executing various levels of testing, and ensuring the delivery of high-quality solutions that meet business and technical requirements. Key Responsibilities Provide advice on testing strategy, test plans, selection of testing tools, and identification of testing resources. Plan and organize testing efforts for large systems in both GUI and non-GUI environments. Execute systems integration testing, specialized testing, user acceptance testing, stress testing, and other testing activities. Develop test plans, test scripts, and test cases, and execute them against various system components. Collaborate with project teams throughout analysis, design, development, implementation, and support phases. Execute functional, integration, system, and regression testing. Validate system functionality under various operating conditions. Identify, document, and track software defects using industry-standard defect management tools. Work closely with development teams to reproduce and resolve defects. Develop and maintain automated test scripts using automated testing tools. Integrate automated testing into CI/CD pipelines. Conduct performance, stress, and load testing activities. Ensure compliance with Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA) standards and related regulations. Collaborate with developers, business analysts, and project managers to ensure solution quality. Participate in Agile ceremonies including sprint planning, daily stand-ups, and retrospectives. Maintain detailed documentation of testing activities, results, coverage, and quality metrics. Provide input into user documentation and release notes. Ensure testing practices align with industry standards and regulatory requirements. General Skills Experience planning, organizing, and implementing testing efforts. Knowledge of structured methodologies for application development, implementation, and maintenance. Experience using CASE tools and data query tools to support test case development. Experience with automated testing tools and version control systems. Experience executing functional, non-functional, and systems integration testing. Experience supporting User Acceptance Testing (UAT). Strong understanding of QA principles, methodologies, and best practices. Experience creating testing strategies, test plans, test cases, and test data. Experience across unit, integration, load, and performance testing. Knowledge of all phases of the Systems Development Life Cycle (SDLC). Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving abilities. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Strong interpersonal and team collaboration skills. Proven ability to meet deadlines. Knowledge of system, integration, regression, and acceptance testing methodologies. Familiarity with Agile, Scrum, and Waterfall delivery models. Ability to create comprehensive test cases and execute them effectively. Experience with defect management and test management tools. Familiarity with automation and API testing tools. Understanding of scripting languages for automation and test data preparation. Experience performing backend testing and data validation. Understanding of software development and testing life cycles. Experience supporting security testing initiatives. Experience managing test data strategies, environments, and privacy requirements. Experience validating data integrity, migration, and transformation processes. Experience conducting performance testing and identifying performance bottlenecks. Required Skills & Experience Core Skills and Experience (40%) 10+ years of experience in software testing within enterprise IT environments and large-scale systems. Hands-on experience with manual testing and automated testing frameworks. Deep understanding of Agile, Scrum, and Waterfall testing methodologies. Extensive experience with AODA testing and compliance. Experience developing and maintaining test strategies, test cases, scripts, and reports. Experience using Selenium, Postman, or similar automation tools. Experience with performance testing tools such as JMeter, LoadRunner, or equivalent. Experience using defect tracking tools such as JIRA, Azure DevOps, or similar. Proven expertise in end-to-end testing of complex enterprise systems. Knowledge of QA compliance standards and security testing best practices. Technical Skills and Experience (35%) Strong understanding of databases including SQL and Oracle. Knowledge of cloud technologies such as Azure and AWS. Knowledge of CI/CD pipelines and tools such as Jenkins, Git, and GitLab. Soft Skills (20%) Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Strong interpersonal and relationship-building skills. Ability to collaborate effectively with functional and technical teams. Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities. Ability to work under pressure and adapt to changing priorities and timelines. Public Sector Experience (5%) Experience with Ontario Public Sector quality assurance standards and practices. Preferred Qualifications Experience with at least one programming language. Experience using information retrieval tools. Understanding of testing methodologies in object-oriented environments. Knowledge of information management principles and practices. Experience planning and organizing testing for systems of varying size and complexity. Experience developing automated test scripts. Experience testing Commercial Off-The-Shelf (COTS) applications. Must-Have Requirements 10+ years of enterprise software testing experience. Manual and automated testing expertise. Extensive AODA testing and compliance experience. Selenium and/or Postman experience. JMeter, LoadRunner, or equivalent performance testing experience. JIRA, Azure DevOps, or equivalent defect management experience. Azure and/or AWS knowledge. CI/CD experience using Jenkins, Git, GitLab, or similar. Ability to work onsite 5 days per week.
