The Role: Financial Controller We're looking for a hands-on finance leader who enjoys building systems, creating structure, and helping leaders make smarter business decisions. Reporting directly to the CEO, you'll own the financial operations of the business while acting as a strategic partner to the leadership team. You'll ensure our financial reporting is accurate, our cash flow is healthy, and our operational leaders have the insights they need to make confident decisions. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys wearing multiple hats. One day you might be reviewing month-end financials, the next you're refining our budgeting process, improving utilization reporting, negotiating with vendors, or helping leadership evaluate our next investment. As Tactable continues to grow, this role has the opportunity to evolve into a CFO position. What You'll Do Financial Leadership & Reporting Own the company's financial reporting, month-end close, and annual financial planning process Prepare timely and accurate monthly financial statements and executive reporting packages Monitor company performance against budgets, forecasts, and key financial metrics Provide financial insights and recommendations that support strategic decision-making Lead budgeting, forecasting, and long-range financial planning Financial Operations Oversee accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, expense management, and cash flow Ensure timely invoicing, collections, and revenue recognition Manage banking relationships, cash forecasting, and working capital Develop scalable financial processes and internal controls as the company grows Support annual audits, tax filings, and compliance requirements Business Partnership Partner with department leaders on budgeting, hiring plans, and operational investments Build dashboards and KPIs that provide visibility into company performance Analyze project profitability, utilization, margins, and operational efficiency Support pricing decisions, contract reviews, and client profitability analysis Provide financial modelling for strategic initiatives and growth opportunities Systems & Process Improvement Improve financial systems, reporting automation, and operational workflows Ensure data integrity across accounting, payroll, HRIS, and business systems Evaluate and implement tools that improve financial visibility and operational efficiency Build scalable finance processes that support continued company growth Leadership Lead and mentor the finance function while partnering closely with People Operations and Executive Leadership Establish financial policies, governance, and best practices Help foster a culture of accountability, transparency, and operational excellence What You Bring Must-Have Experience 8+ years of progressive experience in finance, accounting, or corporate finance CPA designation (or equivalent) Experience leading finance within a professional services, consulting, SaaS, or technology company Strong knowledge of financial reporting, budgeting, forecasting, and cash flow management Experience owning month-end close and annual budgeting processes Advanced financial modelling and analytical skills Excellent communication skills with the ability to explain financial concepts to non-financial audiences Experience building scalable financial processes in a growing organization Nice-to-Haves Experience supporting a company through rapid growth (50–250 employees) Experience with project-based or consulting businesses Familiarity with utilization, billable hours, project profitability, and services margins Experience with mergers & acquisitions, fundraising, or strategic financing Experience implementing ERP or financial systems Previous experience managing small finance teams Why You'll Love This Role Build the Finance Function You'll have the opportunity to shape how finance operates at Tactable and build processes that will support our next phase of growth. Strategic Seat at the Table You'll work directly with the CEO and executive team on the decisions that shape the future of the business. High Ownership This isn't a role where you'll simply report numbers—you'll influence them. Your work will directly impact hiring, investments, pricing, and company strategy. Growing Company We're scaling quickly, which means you'll have the opportunity to build systems that evolve with the business rather than inherit legacy bureaucracy. Flexibility with Structure We're a hybrid-first team with a strong appreciation for in-office collaboration, especially at our downtown Toronto HQ. We encourage in-person presence to foster stronger partnerships across leadership. Why This Might Not Be a Fit If you prefer highly specialized finance roles with narrow responsibilities If you thrive in large corporate environments with established processes rather than building new ones If you're uncomfortable balancing strategic thinking with hands-on execution If you prefer analyzing the business rather than partnering directly with leaders to improve it Compensation, Benefits & Perks Salary Range: $150,000 - $175,000 CAD, based on experience and role fit Performance-based bonus opportunity Comprehensive health and dental benefits Generous PTO and company holidays Hybrid work environment Professional development support Laptop and equipment provided Regular team events and social activities Hiring Process & Transparency This role is for an active position on our leadership team. As part of our hiring process, we use AI-assisted screening tools. Candidates selected to move forward will complete an initial screening interview via an AI-based platform, followed by interviews with members of our executive leadership team.
