Job summary
Are you a Senior Structural Engineer with deep expertise in utility infrastructure and heavy civil works? We are partnering with a premier power and utility organization in British Columbia to bring on a Senior Structural Engineer to lead critical assessment, design, and rehabilitation projects. This is a 1 year contract to start with potential to extend ( onsite 5 days a week in Burnaby for the firs 6-7 months). What You'll Do Serve as Professional of Record (PoR), assessing field conditions and engineering solutions for complex infrastructure. Lead structural assessment, design, rehabilitation, and construction activity support. Oversee construction staging, temporary works, excavation support systems, and constructability reviews. Conduct field work across diverse environments, including steep terrain, requiring PPE and remote collaboration tools. Travel across BC as required for site visits and assessments. What You Bring Minimum 8 years of structural engineering experience in Canada. Expertise in design and analysis of reinforced concrete, structural steel, and timber using tools like S-Frame, SAP2000, or STAAD. Valid Class 5 BC Driver's License, access to a personal vehicle, smartphone, and willingness to travel. Strong physical capability for field work (working outdoors, navigating steep grades, using ladders/fall arrest equipment). Strong working knowledge of local utility construction practices and BC codes Background with Canadian utility owners, bridge design, or Distribution plant design (O/H, U/G, vaults, duct banks). Experience in NDT testing, concrete repair, seismic retrofits, or risk-based asset condition assessment. Familiarity with MMCD, MoTT Utilities Manual, CoV Utilities Design Manual, and AHJ permitting. Requirements
Requires a minimum of 8 years of structural engineering experience in Canada with expertise in reinforced concrete, steel, and timber. Must possess a valid BC Driver's License and be physically capable of performing field work in diverse and steep terrains.
