Job Description: POSITION PURPOSE SUMMARY: The Christmas Toy Shop Worker provides support to the Community and Family Services during the Christmas season on a temporary basis. ACCOUNTABILITIES: Assist with the set-up, take-down and organization of toy distribution program. Assist with the scheduling and organization of volunteers. Train and support volunteers with the assistance of staff Work with various community organizations to promote and support the annual Toy Drive. Support volunteers with difficult client interactions. Receive and process donations of toys for distribution; assess toys for damage and provide assistance with packing and sorting of toy donations. Assist with recording statistical data in a clear, organized, and accurate manner. Receive and process inquiries from clients, businesses and donors requiring assistance as appropriate. Perform other related duties as required. WORKING CONDITIONS: This is a seasonal temporary position based on 40hrs per week Shifts may include days, afternoons, evenings, weekend shifts, and split shifts, Monday through Saturday. Applicable shifts include a ½ hour unpaid meal break. Flexibility in scheduling is required, as the hours may increase as per operational requirements. The working environment is typically in the office in generally agreeable conditions. Ability to lift/move up to 29 lbs. Education, Qualifications and Certifications: Completed High School or equivalent Experience: A minimum of one (1) year of prior related experience working in community-based programs would be a definite asset. Experience leading a team would be an asset Skills and Capabilities Excellent interpersonal skills, integrity, and adaptability. Ability to work with minimal supervision Ability to stand for long periods of time Honest, courteous, and punctual; represent the organization in a positive, professional, and engaging manner. Ability and willingness to undergo applicable screening and background checks successfully that are satisfactory to The Salvation Army, in its sole discretion (i.e., The Salvation Army Abuse Registry) and provide an original copy of a Background Check screening. Ability and willingness to develop an understanding and support for the mission and purpose of The Salvation Army in Canada and its implications as related to position responsibilities. Compensation: The target hiring range for this position is $17.60 to $21.84 with a maximum of $26.20. Placement in the salary range will be based on factors such as market conditions, internal equity, and candidate experience, skills, and qualifications relevant to the role. Requirements
A high school diploma or equivalent is required; at least one year of related community-program experience and team-leading experience are assets. Candidates should have strong interpersonal skills, integrity, adaptability, the ability to work with minimal supervision and stand for extended periods, and be able to lift or move up to 29 pounds; satisfactory screening and background checks are also required.
