Job Description Position Purpose summary: This position supports the ongoing operations of the Edmonton CRC. This role provides pick-up, delivery, and handling services to and from donors, clients, and ministry units in a safe, careful, and courteous manner and is required to adhere to all laws and safe driving practices while in control and possession of Salvation Army vehicles and property. It assists in the receiving, shipping, sorting, and handling of all materials secured for Salvation Army ministry purpose, while assisting in the maintenance of a clean, safe, and hazard-free workplace. This position is both a warehouse and driving position. Warehouse Accountabilities Assists the driver(s) in the loading and unloading of materials in the shipping/receiving areas of the CRC. Processes materials by scanning into inventory software system, packing, and storing in a safe and organized manner, while protecting the integrity of all donations received. Ensures all food items are stored correctly to avoid any potential contamination of such materials. Ensures perishable food items are stored in the cooler or freezer, as appropriate. Operates warehouse equipment such as pallet jack, maintenance tools, etc. in a safe manner. Complies with all safety procedures as required and directed including, but not limited to, wearing of safety shoes/boots, glasses, gloves, clothing (if/as required), etc. Cleans, organizes, and keeps free from hazard all areas of the CRC as required and directed. Communicates all concerns for safety of persons/property promptly. Performs other related responsibilities as may be assigned by the Operations Manager, or other team members as instructed. Driving Accountabilities Ensures the safe and careful handling of all pick-ups, deliveries, and donations, while protecting property, including public, Salvation Army vehicle, equipment, and donations. Assumes responsibility for daily safety, maintenance, operation, and cleanliness of Salvation Army vehicles. Performs a “circle check” daily to ensure operational safety. Assumes responsibility for all receipts and documentation related to maintenance and operation of Salvation Army vehicles including, but not limited to, fuel and maintenance receipts, kilometer/mileage logs, etc. Maintains knowledge of road safety procedures, legislative and Salvation Army safety policies including, but not limited to, Provincial/Municipal Traffic Act, Health and Safety Regulations, etc. Complies with all safety procedures as required and directed including, but not limited to, wearing of safety shoes/boots, glasses, gloves, clothing (if/as required), etc. Loads and unloads materials at warehouse or assigned destinations in a safe and proper manner. Is responsible for personal payment of any and all fines/traffic violations incurred while in the possession/operation of a Salvation Army Vehicle. Performs other related responsibilities as may be assigned by the Operations Manager, or other team members as instructed. Performs other position related duties as assigned. Critical Relationship Management Internal relationships: Supervisor, staff, volunteers Local Salvation Army Ministry Unit contacts External relationships: Vendors, Donors, Community partners Managerial/Technical Leadership Responsibilities This position reports directly to the CRC Operations Manager, or in their absence, the CRC Resource Manager. Financial And Materials Management Accountable for minor materials management, maintenance, safekeeping, effective usage, and distribution of office supplies and equipment. Working Conditions Work location for this position is usually in a warehouse facility setting with some driving required. Occasional travel may be required between work locations and/or for training purposes. Work is subject to frequent interruptions and multitasking, temperature variations and equipment and general office noise (ie. People talking, phones ringing) The work may require frequent amounts of sitting, standing, walking, bending, repetitive lifting/sorting, and the ability to lift up to 30 pounds, or up to 50 pounds with assistance. This is a casual position with a guaranteed 4 hours per week. Opportunities for additional hours may be available depending on staffing and operational needs. Education And Experience Qualifications Education, Qualifications, and Certifications: Be aged 18 or over on the start date of the job. Completion of high school or equivalent. Possesses a valid Class 5 Alberta driver’s license and maintains a clean driver’s abstract. Provide an original copy of a Background Check that is satisfactory to The Salvation Army, in its sole discretion. The screening is secured either through the National Canadian Policy Information Centre (CPIC) or through a local police detachment. May require screening through The Salvation Army Abuse Registry. Skills And Capabilities Develop an understanding and support for the mission and purpose of The Salvation Army in Canada and its implications as related to position responsibilities. Effective communication skills. Excellent interpersonal skills, integrity, and adaptability. Self-directed with strong organizational skills and the ability to complete assignments and meet deadlines. Demonstrate flexibility and strong work ethic with a willingness to learn. Ability to maintain information in confidence and exercise good judgement. Demonstrate ability to work independently and participate as an active and responsible team member in a cooperative team environment. The ability to lift up to 30 pounds, or up to 50 pounds with assistance. Willing to wear Salvation Army logo and branded wear. Must comply with all Salvation Army policies, procedures, and associated legislation. Work in compliance with OH&S Act and Regulations and abide by The Salvation Army's health and safety policies and procedures. Participate in mandatory orientation training including on-line abuse prevention certification, Food Safety, W.H.I.M.S., and other onboarding material as required. This is a casual position Compensation The target hiring range for this position is $17.45 to $21.81 with a maximum of $26.17. Placement in the salary range will be based on factors such as market conditions, internal equity, and candidate experience, skills, and qualifications relevant to the role.
