The Thunder Bay Catholic District School Board Invites Applications For The Position Of Temporary Indigenous Student Counsellor - Secondary (9-12) 1.0 FTE Temporary Position (September 2026- June 2027) Education Under the direction and guidance of the school principal and general supervision of the Superintendent of Education, the Indigenous Student Counsellor will provide support, advocacy and cultural counselling to Indigenous students by: Providing academic and cultural support to individual or small groups of Indigenous students; Acting as a liaison between parents/guardians and the school; Providing transition support for Indigenous students new to our schools; Providing the opportunity to develop life skills and assisting and supporting Indigenous students in their physical, emotional and spiritual well being. Qualifications Post-secondary education in human services with an emphasis on Indigenous Studies or equivalent education and experience; Knowledge and understanding of First Nation cultures, values, ways of knowing and histories; Identification as a First Nation, Métis or Inuit community member and lived experience is an asset; Knowledge of community services; Fluency skills in Ojibwe is an asset; Proven cultural counselling and interpersonal skills; Experience with SafeTALK Training; Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
