JOIN OUR UNDERGROUND MINING TEAM Thyssen Mining is seeking experienced and safety-focused Jackleg Miners to join our underground operations. The successful candidate will be responsible for performing conventional mining activities, including drilling, blasting support, ground support installation, and development mining while maintaining the highest standards of safety and productivity. This position is ideal for miners with strong jackleg experience who thrive in a challenging underground environment and are committed to safe, quality work. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES UNDERGROUND MINING OPERATIONS * Operate jackleg drills safely and efficiently in underground mining environments. * Perform face drilling according to mine plans and specifications. * Assist with blasting activities in accordance with site procedures and regulations. * Scale loose ground and identify ground control hazards. * Install ground support systems including screen, split sets, rebar, cable bolts, and other support as required. * Conduct development and rehabilitation work in headings, drifts, ramps, and crosscuts. * Handle explosives and blasting accessories where certified and authorized. SAFETY & COMPLIANCE * Follow all company, client, and regulatory safety requirements. * Participate in daily safety meetings, toolbox talks, and Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs). * Inspect work areas and equipment prior to commencing work. * Report hazards, incidents, and equipment deficiencies immediately. * Maintain housekeeping standards underground. EQUIPMENT & MAINTENANCE * Complete pre-operational inspections on mining equipment. * Maintain hand tools and mining equipment in safe working condition. * Identify and report mechanical or operational issues affecting productivity or safety. TEAMWORK * Work closely with supervisors, miners, bolters, and support crews. * Provide mentorship to less experienced underground workers when required. * Contribute to a respectful and productive work environment. QUALIFICATIONS * Minimum 3 years of underground mining experience. * Demonstrated experience operating a jackleg drill in a production or development environment. * Strong understanding of conventional mining methods. * Experience installing ground support systems. * Knowledge of underground mining safety practices and regulations. * Ability to work safely in a physically demanding underground environment. * Strong communication and teamwork skills. * Valid driver's license. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS * Common Core modules (Ontario). * Blasting experience and explosives handling certification. * Development mining experience. * Experience working for underground mining contractors. * First Aid Certification. * WHMIS and other site-specific safety training.
