Job summary
Full-Time Public Works Employee As directed, operates the following machinery, tools and equipment to maintain and repair roads, sidewalks and associated facilities through the Municipality: Grader- plowing snow, grading roads, and excavating ditches Dump trucks- plowing snow, hauling and spreading materials Front end loader- loading trucks with granular, brush or debris, plowing snow etc Backhoe- excavating ditches Tractors- cutting roadside right of way Street sweeper Sidewalk maintenance vehicle, plowing snow, sweeping, loading trucks, cutting grass Snowplows, mowers, chainsaws, maintaining roads and ditches Install and maintain regulatory, warning information signs as per Uniform Traffic Manual In emergency situations, installs signs and re-direct traffic on a temporary basis As directed carries out a variety of duties in connection with operation of the municipal cemetery including digging and filling graves, lowering casket and landscaping areas As directed: performs a variety of mechanical maintenance on equipment including oil changes, tire repairs, painting, wiring and welding repairs and welds to major breakages in municipal equipment recommends major overhauls to Manager fabricates equipment used in department, on occasion designs such equipment As directed, carries out routine maintenance and construction of municipal buildings, including painting, electrical and plumbing work, roofing and carpentry As directed, provides equipment and supplies to contractors used in the construction of roads and other facilities (limited construction by department) Arranges for disposal of dead animals in the road allowance The requirements of the position include: Must possess a DZ Licence. 3 to 4 years of exposure to relevant equipment operations, such as trade knowledge on heavy equipment, mechanical and civil engineering.
