Job Description Please note that this is an ongoing posting meaning that applications will be accepted until December 31, 2026 in order to establish a pool of candidates for when opportunities come up. Under the direction of the Supervisor, Animal Services, the Animal Services Officer, Urgent Response (after hours) is responsible for after-hours response to calls for animals that are critically injured, sick, or otherwise in distress to alleviate pain and suffering, on an on-call basis. This includes, but is not limited to capturing, handling, restraining, and assessing all types of animals. Transporting domestic animals to receive veterinary treatment, providing temporary housing and care to wild animals that are eligible for rehabilitation, and humane euthanasia of wild animals that are not eligible for rehabilitation. Completing necessary reports and maintaining detailed notes. Job Requirements Post-secondary diploma in Animal Care, Veterinary Technology, or animal-related experience, or related field and/or combination of equivalent education and experience is required. Demonstrated related experience working with including experience capturing, restraining, handling and assessing various breeds and species of animals is required. Experience working or volunteering with wildlife is an asset. Experience or familiarity with euthanizing practices is an asset. Demonstrated strong communication, dispute resolution, and customer service skills including demonstrated ability in dealing with the public, as well as handling difficult individuals, and ability to de-escalate contentious situations are required. Demonstrated oral and written skills regarding documentation; report writing, attention to detail and accuracy are required. Demonstrated knowledge in computers, skills, and efficiency in the use of MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) and spreadsheet application, along with knowledge of additional relevant software. Due to the responsibilities of this position a Police Vulnerable Sector Check satisfactory to the Town is required. Class "G" Driver’s License in good standing and a reliable vehicle for use on corporate business is required. Availability to work outside normal working hours to respond to call for animals in distress is required.

Requirements

Requires a post-secondary diploma in Animal Care or Veterinary Technology and demonstrated experience in handling various animal species. Must possess a Class G driver's license, a reliable vehicle, and the ability to pass a Police Vulnerable Sector Check.
