Reporting to the Recreation Coordinator, the Specialized Instructor – Dance facilitates safe, inclusive, and engaging dance programs that promote skill development, creativity, and active participation. They create a fun and supportive environment that encourages confidence, self-expression, teamwork, and personal growth. Ensures participant safety at all times while adapting instruction to meet individual needs and abilities. Job Responsibilities As a Specialized Instructor – Dance, you will lead engaging and inclusive dance programs in a variety of styles, including but not limited to jazz, ballet, hip hop, for registered children and youth participants. You will create a safe, welcoming, and positive learning environment that supports skill development, creativity, confidence, and personal growth. Arriving at the program site with sufficient time to prepare, set up, and begin classes as scheduled. Planning and delivering program content in accordance with established lesson plans, class formats, and program objectives. Monitoring participant progress and providing ongoing feedback and evaluation. Ensuring the safety and well-being of all participants by following established health, safety, and public health guidelines. Delivering exceptional customer service through positive interactions, effective communication, and a welcoming approach. Completing program administration, including attendance tracking, registration updates, and incident reporting as required. Working collaboratively with fellow instructors, staff, and volunteers to suppo program success. Reporting participant concerns, facility issues, program challenges, and recommendations to the Recreation Coordinator/Fitness. Attending staff meetings and training sessions as required. Supporting the objectives, philosophies, policies, and procedures of the Recreation and Culture Department. Promoting and implementing the HIGH FIVE® Principles of Healthy Child Development (PHCD). Performing other related duties as assigned. Positions Available And Specific Qualifications - General Dance Instructor Experience teaching and/or performing at a competitive level in one or more of the following dance disciplines: Jazz Ballet Lyrical Contemporary Hip Hop Bollywood Qualifications Current Intermediate First Aid with CPR C (formerly Standard First Aid with CPR C) from a WSIB-approved provider, issued within the last three (3) years and valid throughout the term of employment. HIGH FIVE® Principles of Healthy Child Development (PHCD) certification, or the ability to obtain certification within 30 days of hire. Demonstrated ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team environment. Demonstrated proficiency in one or more dance disciplines, including Jazz, Ballet, Lyrical, Contemporary, Hip Hop and/or Bollywood. Proven experience working with children, and youth. Coaching certification and/or competitive dance experience is required. All successful candidates will be required to obtain HIGH FIVE Principles of Healthy Child Development (PHCD) Certification prior to commencement of duties.
