Head Lifeguard/Instructor - Temporary Full-Time Town of Tillsonburg is looking for a Head Lifeguard/Instructor who would be responsible for effectively supervising and caring for participants in Aquatic programs while providing a safe, well balanced, stimulating programs for participants 3 months old and up. Department: Recreation, Culture and Parks Division: Recreation Programs & Services Reports To: Aquatics Supervisor Contract Dates: September 1, 2026 - December 18, 2026 Hourly Rate: $26.28- $30.73/hour Weekly Hours: 40 Vacancy: 1 (existing) This is a contract position with an option to enroll in OMERS defined pension plan. Vulnerable Sector Check is required for this position. Interested candidates please apply prior to the end of day September 2, 2026 Responsibilities Provide daily instruction and safety supervision for all aquatic programming. Proficient knowledge of emergency procedures and use of equipment, and ability to take a leadership role to manage patrons and staff in area. Enforce admission guidelines during all open swim programming. Assists in daily maintenance as required to keep the pool ready for use. Attend all staff trainings and meetings as scheduled by Aquatics Supervisor or designate. When full-time staff are absent, act as Lead Hand to provide deck leadership of swimming instructors, lifeguards, assistant lifeguards/instructors and seasonal customer service staff. Accurately documenting all incidents, near misses, and rescues following established procedures. Interacting with patrons, addressing concerns, and providing accurate information to bathers. Performs other duties as assigned. Performance Requirements Knowledge of: All Lifesaving Society curriculum including the Learn to Swim Program, Patrol Program, Bronze Star Family, Emergency First Aid, and Swim to Survive. MESH application and reporting for daily aquatic records and emergency reporting. Required administration for teaching swimming. Recording progress, completing test sheets and report cards in a timely manner. Aware of safe work practices relating to job responsibilities and have a working compliance knowledge of the Occupational Health & Safety Act, legislation governing the public pools, maintaining compliance with AODA, WHMIS and Health Regulations as it relates to the work environment. Skill in; Providing instruction and lifeguarding supervision for all programming at the Tillsonburg Community Centre and Lake Lisgar Waterpark. Leading water fitness programming. Providing exemplary customer service to all patrons and members. Endeavor at all times to work as a team with supervisors and fellow staff members. Report all accidents/incidents, problems or concerns. Ability to: Assist with staff substitutions if required. Perform other duties as required and designated by the Aquatics Supervisor or Aquatics Coordinators. Work evenings and weekends. Maintain consistent and punctual attendance. Lift up to 80lbs. Qualifications OSSD or equivalent. 1 year experience teaching and lifeguarding. Current Standard First Aid CPR-C and AED. Current National Lifeguard Pool certification. Current Lifesaving Society Swim Instructor. Current Lifesaving Society Lifesaving Instructors. Experience working with children. Advanced aquatic leadership certifications an asset. High Five Healthy Principles of Child Development an asset. Ability to work flexible hours, including early mornings, evenings and weekends when required. Requirements
Candidates must hold current National Lifeguard, Swim Instructor, and Lifesaving Instructor certifications along with Standard First Aid/CPR-C/AED. A minimum of one year of experience in teaching and lifeguarding, as well as an OSSD or equivalent, is required.
