The Town Clerk performs intermediate clerical work in legislative activities including meeting agenda creation, meeting minute transcription in a synopsis format, providing notice of all public meetings to appropriate parties including the media, posting official documents and updates to town website or other appropriate files, receiving requests from citizens and media and transmitting them to the appropriate contact, coordinating oaths of office for elected and appointed officials, communicating with Administration and Town Council on a regular basis pertaining to official town business, and related work as apparent or assigned. Work is performed under the moderate supervision of the Deputy Town Manager and/or Town Manager, however is subject to appointment by Town Council for four-year terms. General knowledge of clerical duties; general knowledge of standard office practices, procedures, equipment and office assistance techniques; general knowledge of business English, spelling, and verbal communication; general knowledge of department programs and policies; some knowledge of FOIA and COIA; ability to operate standard office machines and systems; ability to perform detailed record work; ability to understand and follow oral and written directions; ability to transcribe events and statements in a public meeting setting; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with associates and the general public. A high school diploma or GED and experience in communications, customer service, and clerical work, or equivalent combination of education and experience. International Institute of Municipal Clerks (IIMC) Certified Municipal Clerk (CMC) or Master Municipal Clerk (MMC) designation is preferred. This is an appointed, limited, part-time position (for FLSA purposes) that requires attendance at an average of three evening meetings per month. The rate of pay for this position is $19.08 per hour in addition to a fixed stipend per meeting. The rate of pay, when annualized, is not anticipated to exceed $5,000. The successful applicant may be subject to a pre-employment, post-offer drug screening and background check.
