Job summary
Transdev Canada is hiring a Casual Transit Dispatcher / Scheduler for our Abbotsford location, with support required in Chilliwack as required. As a Transit Dispatcher / Scheduler, you will be at the centre of daily transit operations, helping ensure operators, vehicles, and service are coordinated safely and efficiently. This is a fast-paced, hands-on operational role where you will monitor service in real time, coordinate with frontline employees, respond to unexpected changes, and make decisions that help keep transit service running smoothly. Your Role Prepare and manage daily operator schedules and vehicle assignments. Dispatch operators and coordinate service according to schedules, operational requirements, and company procedures. Monitor transit service in real time and respond quickly to delays, disruptions, absences, and other operational issues. Coordinate operator coverage for vacations, sick calls, and unexpected absences. Maintain regular communication with drivers, supervisors, and management to support daily service delivery. Support HandyDART dispatching and scheduling as required. Record and update attendance, service, incident, and operational information accurately. Maintain accurate records in scheduling, dispatch, and other operational systems. Assist with service recovery and emergency response procedures when required. Identify and communicate operational issues promptly and escalate concerns when appropriate. Follow all company policies, procedures, safety requirements, and regulatory standards. Your Profile Minimum two (2) years of dispatch or closely related operational experience, supported by professional references. Grade 12 education or High School Diploma. Experience in dispatching, scheduling, transportation, logistics, customer service, or operations. Strong verbal and written communication skills. Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail. Ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment. Ability to make sound decisions and respond effectively to unexpected situations. Proficiency with Microsoft Office and the ability to learn and use dispatch and scheduling software. Ability to work independently and take responsibility for operational decisions. Ability to remain calm, professional, and solution-focused under pressure. Knowledge of local geography and public transportation is considered an asset. Previous experience in transit, HandyDART, logistics, fleet, or transportation operations is considered an asset. Dispatch training or certification is considered an asset. Your location: Casual, on-site, unionized position based in Abbotsford, with work in Chilliwack as required. The operation runs seven days a week, and availability for evenings, weekends, and holidays is required based on operational needs. As a casual employee, hours and shifts will vary according to operational requirements.
