The Role: Indigenous Youth Program Facilitator (Full-Time) The word Iiyika’kimaat, which means “to try hard” in Blackfoot, was gifted to the agency after consultation with elders. The Iiyika’kimaat program provides Indigenous youth, aged 12-21 years, an opportunity to reach their full potential through culturally relevant and leadership-specific components and activities. This position is 37.5 hours a week and requires a flexible schedule including evenings and some weekends to meet youth and community needs. Key Tasks & Responsibilities * Iiyika’kimaat Programmer is responsible for working alongside the other Indigenous Initiatives staff to plan and implement creative programming. * Ensure for the safety and well-being of all children and youth in the program, including group and/or individual behavior management and support * Plan and implement age-appropriate activities based on assigned core program area with a focus on the Circle of Courage framework, self-esteem, leadership, identity, and social skills * Ensure programs reflect cultural diversity in the community and include cultural awareness components * Work with Trellis Society’s Indigenous Initiatives team to provide appropriate cultural experiences and referral supports to Indigenous youth and their families * Train, support, supervise, and evaluate the work of the volunteers and practicum students assigned to the program * Maintain specific program and member statistics and ensure client records are regularly maintained, as well as perform other administrative duties as required including monthly reporting of program statistics, program costs, and qualitative content * Ensure all licensing and safety standards are met as per Government and CAC requirements * Ensure for cleanliness of facility and van, and proper care of equipment and supplies * Assist with recruitment and marketing of programs in the community, schools, on social media, and at events * Support Trellis Society initiatives and events * Complete other tasks required for programming What you will bring to the Role * Excellent understanding of Indigenous clients and the multi-faceted issues they face. Work and/or knowledge surrounding working with sexually exploited youth an asset * Strong understanding of Indigenous cultural protocols and ways of knowing * Ability to articulate your connection within the Calgary and Area of Indigenous community * Diploma or bachelor’s degree in a related human services or social services field with three to five years recent related experience. An equivalent combination of education, training and experience may be considered * Knowledge and experience with youth development frameworks, including strength-based, trauma-informed care, stages of change, family, and natural supports frameworks * Computer literacy in Word, Excel, and ability to learn database systems TRAX * Strong communication and documentation skills * Demonstrated experience working with diverse communities and ability to create and foster strong relationships * An engaging person who loves to be part of a team supporting people as well as an ability to work independently and be self-motivated * Ability to provide a Criminal Record Check with vulnerable sector search and cleared Intervention Record Check * Current Standard First Aid and CPR Training * Valid Class 5 Driver's License and Drivers Abstract * A reliable vehicle, as this position requires driving to meet the needs of the youth, including transporting youth to appointments, programs, and other support related activities Reporting Relationship This position reports directly to the Program Manager of Iiyika’kimaat. Requirements

Candidates must possess a diploma or bachelor's degree in a human or social services field with three to five years of relevant experience. A strong understanding of Indigenous culture, a valid driver's license, and the ability to pass a criminal record check are required.
