Position Title: Guardian - Forestry, Recreation, Lands Employer: 'Na̱mǥis First Nation Location: Alert Bay, BC Employment type: Full time _ on-site Salary: Level 13, Salary _ L13 - $50,651 - $59,095) per year, commensurate with experience Reports to: Director, Natural Resources Posting closes: Until filled POSITION SUMMARY: Under the direction of the Director of Natural Resources (NR), the NR Stewardship Technician will be responsible for field activities related to 'Namgis natural resource management in lands, fisheries, forestry, water, and rights and title related activities. REPORTS TO: Director of Natural Resources Specific Responsibilities Positively representing 'Namgis to members and the outside world in all activities. Activity Recording and Data collection: most field activities will have a data collection component, some examples include: CMT surveys, marine surveys, brood stock, egg-takes. These activities must be tracked in supplied notebook. Activity Reporting: you will frequently be asked to create. Physical and biological assessments Physical and biological sampling Community relations and education Safe operation and maintenance of equipment including vessels, all-terrain vehicles, trucks, trailers, etc. General maintenance: gear, vehicles, facilities. All tools, vehicles and facilities are to meet safety standards of 'Namgis policies. Undertake training as assigned. Support new/temporary staff. Other duties are as required by the Natural Resources Director, and/or the Administrator. Skills & Experience Requirements Ability to work in challenging marine and wilderness environments in a safe and efficient manner Strong written and verbal communication skills Demonstrated competency with MS Office Software Knowledge of 'Namgis culture Education/Qualifications Grade 8 or equivalent Valid Class 5 BC Driver's Licence Small Vessel Operator Proficiency - SVOP Marine Emergency Duties Basic First Aid Swiftwater Rescue Unusual Job Features Various duties that include strenuous manual labour Irregular work hours which may include overnight and weekends Extensive outdoor work May work in or near swift waters Tasks often include travel by ferry and truck/boat to work site or as part of activities How To Apply Please submit the following: your resume; a brief cover letter describing your interest; and We thank all applicants for their interest; only shortlisted candidates will be contacted.
