Full Time | Alert Bay Intensive Youth Worker Employment type: Full-time, permanent, on-site Salary: $58,950 to $68,996 annually Reports to: Youth Team Leader Department: 'Nam̱gis Community Services Posting closes: Until filled About The Role The Intensive Youth Worker supports the development and delivery of meaningful, consistent programming for youth aged 13-18 in the Alert Bay community. Reporting to the Youth Team Leader, this role focuses on creating opportunities that strengthen young people's connection to culture, land, language, identity, spirit, and a strong sense of belonging. Working closely with Elders, Knowledge Keepers, community members, partner organizations, and other service providers, the Intensive Youth Worker co-facilitates programs designed around the needs of youth in the community. The position also provides one-to-one intensive support when needed and helps create safe, welcoming, youth-focused, and trauma-informed spaces where young people can connect, participate, and thrive. This role is well suited for someone who is passionate about working with youth, building trusted relationships, and creating inclusive programming rooted in community, culture, and connection. The successful candidate will bring a collaborative and compassionate approach and a commitment to supporting the well-being and development of 'Nam̱gis youth. Key Responsibilities Identify gaps in services and develop comprehensive and effective programs that respond to the needs of youth. Co-facilitate and supervise evening and weekend programming, as well as activities offered during spring break, winter break, and summer. Create safe, welcoming, youth-focused, and trauma-informed spaces. Organize youth-specific events, activities, and groups, including campouts, swimming, skating, and other recreational opportunities. Collaborate with community partners in planning and delivering youth programs and activities. Help remove barriers to youth participation through effective planning and communication and by coordinating food and transportation within established budgets. Collaborate with other agencies, Nations, and councils to support the complex needs of youth in the community. Build meaningful relationships with Elders and Knowledge Keepers to support programming rooted in culture and language. Provide one-to-one intensive support to youth as needed. Co-facilitate and organize a Youth Advisory Council. Skills and Experience Demonstrated ability to build positive and respectful relationships with youth. Ability to create and support safe, welcoming, youth-focused, and trauma-informed programming. Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with youth, families, Elders, Knowledge Keepers, community members, agencies, Nations, councils, and other community partners. Ability to organize and support recreational, cultural, and community-based activities for youth. Ability to identify barriers to participation and coordinate practical supports such as transportation, food, planning, and communication. Ability to provide individualized support to youth based on their needs. An understanding of the importance of culture, land, language, identity, and belonging in supporting the well-being of Indigenous youth. Strong organizational skills and the ability to support programming that may take place during evenings, weekends, and school breaks. Education Grade 12 or equivalent. A diploma or degree in Human Services is considered an asset. First Aid Certification, Food Safe certification, and suicide-intervention training are preferred. Other Requirements Valid Class 5 BC Driver's Licence. Availability to work overtime, evenings, and weekends from time to time. First Aid, Food Safe, and suicide-intervention training are preferred, along with the ability to build respectful relationships with youth and collaborate on safe, culturally responsive programming.
