Description Postdoctoral Scholar position Area: Integration of Geospatial Modelling Tools with Systems Analysis Duration: One year, with possibility of renewal Start date: Immediate Salary: $65,000 CAD per year, plus a comprehensive benefits package The Schulich School of Engineering at the University of Calgary is accepting applications for one (1) Postdoctoral Scholar focusing on developing geospatial tools that can be integrated into systems-level assessments of energy and infrastructure systems. The Postdoctoral Scholar will be housed in the Department of Civil or Chemical and Petroleum Engineering. They will be part of an interdisciplinary team working on advancing next-generation methods and applications in life cycle assessment and energy system modelling. Job Description: The successful applicant will focus on development and integration of geospatial modelling tools in life cycle assessment (LCA) and energy system modelling (ESM) to enhance spatial representation of energy and infrastructure systems. The role involves incorporating geographic information systems (GIS), remote sensing data, and spatial analysis techniques to strengthen LCA and ESM capabilities for assessing location-dependent environmental impacts. They will work closely with project investigators with interdisciplinary backgrounds and will have the opportunity to mentor graduate (PhD and MSc) students working on spatially-explicit systems-level assessments of energy and infrastructure systems. The initial appointment is for one year and may be renewable for a second year, contingent on satisfactory performance and availability of funding. Qualifications: The successful candidate will hold a Ph.D. in chemical engineering, civil engineering, mechanical engineering, physics, economics or related field with demonstrated skills in geospatial modelling tools. Clear interest in interdisciplinary work in the area should be expressed in the cover letter. In addition, the candidate should have the following qualifications: The candidate must have been awarded a PhD or equivalent within the five years immediately preceding the start date of this posting. Experience with systems-level assessment techniques such as life cycle assessment and techno-economic assessment is required. Experience with developing and applying geospatial modelling tools in research is preferred. Strong written communication skills, preferably demonstrated by writing peer-review publications and technical reports. Ability to work both independently and collaboratively with an interdisciplinary group involving students and faculty from a range of backgrounds, as well as external stakeholders. Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to interact with internal and external stakeholders. Advanced skills in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint).
