We collaborate with governments, utilities, industry, Indigenous partners, and researchers to inform energy policy and infrastructure planning while advancing Canada's clean energy transition. Role Description The Grid Modeller is a full-time, on-site role based at the University of Victoria in Victoria, BC. This position focuses on developing, implementing, and maintaining models of electrical grids and energy systems to support research, planning, and operational decision-making. Day-to-day responsibilities may include building and validating simulation models, analyzing grid performance under various scenarios, and preparing technical reports, visualizations, and documentation for project stakeholders. The Grid Modeller collaborates with faculty, researchers, and technical staff, participates in project meetings, and contributes to the design of methodologies and tools that advance sustainable and resilient energy systems. The role may also involve supporting grant proposals, sharing findings through presentations or publications, and maintaining high standards of data integrity and model accuracy. Qualifications A candidate should possess strong quantitative and analytical skills for modeling and simulation of electrical grids, power systems, or energy networks. A candidate should possess proficiency with relevant software and programming tools (e.g., power system modeling platforms, scripting languages such as Python or MATLAB, and data analysis tools). A candidate should possess knowledge of electrical engineering or energy systems principles, including grid operations, reliability, and integration of renewable energy resources. A candidate should possess skills in technical writing and communication to document models, prepare reports, and present complex findings to diverse audiences. A candidate should possess strong problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a research environment. A candidate should possess relevant academic preparation, such as a degree in electrical engineering, energy systems, applied mathematics, computer science, or a related field; a graduate degree is considered an asset. A candidate should possess experience in research or industry projects related to power systems, smart grids, or sustainability, with familiarity in Canadian or international grid standards considered beneficial. A candidate should possess an interest in contributing to interdisciplinary projects, openness to learning new tools and methods, and a commitment to inclusive, respectful collaboration.
