Job Purpose Journeyperson Steel Plate & Structural Fitters are responsible for assembly, fitting, installation, and fabrication of metal components for various structures and products. Responsibilities Displays a commitment to Waiward’s incident-free vision, values, and culture. Read blueprints and specifications to determine the materials necessary to lay out work. Assemble and fit metal section and plates to form complete units or subunits using tack welding, bolting, or other methods. Lay out reference points and patterns according to component specifications. Grind, stamp, cut and drill material. Complete housekeeping tasks. Attend daily toolbox meetings. Demonstrate a willingness to learn and ask questions. Consistently complete tasks with minimal errors, rejections and NCR’s Ensure that all non-conformances are reported and that the shop, where applicable, maintains the integrity of the company’s ISO-9001 registration. Read, understand and comply with all established procedures including Waiward’s safety policies and rules, safe work practices, procedures for machinery and equipment and complete any documentation as required. Take reasonable care and cooperate with the employer to protect the health and safety of themselves and their co-workers. Participates in the HSE Safety Incentive Program by completing an SI card on a weekly basis. Adhere to all Company PPE standards, ensuring appropriate personal protective equipment is worn at all times. Report personal injuries, no matter how minor, and obtain medical attention as required. Willing to work overtime when needed. May perform other related duties as assigned. Qualifications Must be a registered an Alberta-certified journeyperson, hold a valid recognized credential, or possess the skills and knowledge expected of a journeyperson. CWB Transferable Welder Qualification (including Tack Welder) is required. Certified Overhead Crane Operator Certification is an asset (can be internally delivered). Demonstrates a solid understanding of reading blueprints both in metric and imperial. Basic and Advanced Rigging Course is an asset. FLHA Training is an asset. Respirator Mask Fit Testing Required. Ability to lift up to 45 pounds. WHMIS. Working Conditions The incumbent is required to work in the fabrication shop with moderate noise and potential exposure to numerous hazardous fumes. Physical Requirements The incumbent is required to have close visual acuity to perform an activity such as: viewing fitting specifications for extended periods of time; and extensive reading. The incumbent is also required to stand and sit for extended periods of time and will require good physical attributes for walking on uneven ground, climbing, confined space entry, limited lifting, and sitting. *Waiward is an equal opportunity employer. The Structural Steel and Plate Fitter is responsible for reading blueprints to assemble, fit, and fabricate metal components for various structures. They must also ensure all work adheres to safety standards, quality requirements, and company procedures.

Candidates must be Alberta-certified journeypersons or possess equivalent skills and hold a CWB Transferable Welder Qualification. The role requires the ability to read blueprints, perform physical labor including lifting up to 45 pounds, and maintain compliance with safety regulations.
