As an Assistant Banquet Manager your role will be to support the Banquet Manager by supervising the activities of the banquet operation while ensuring service and brand standards are met. The Wellness You Deserve: We’ll support you in and out of the workplace by offering: * Team-spirited coworkers & encouraging management * Learning and development opportunities * Reward and Recognition Programs * Staff Accommodation (based on availability) * Enjoy Discounted Hotel stays with Marriott ‘Explore’ Program * Complimentary Staff Meal What we are looking for: * A warm, people-oriented demeanor * A team-first attitude * High attention to detail and a drive to get things done Position Requirements: * Train, supervise, and coach associates for the efficient operation of the banquets * Oversee hiring of casual banquet serving staff, including scheduling, maintain up-to-date availability lists * Administer day-to-day payroll * Interact with customers promoting hotel facilities and services * Ensure food quality and service standards are met * Ensure par stock levels are maintained by calculating inventory, ordering and retrieving supplies and stocking shelves * Process cheques in CI and Lightspeed * Enter and Maintain banquet event orders * Maintain required labour costs and staffing levels * Provide direct service to guests as needed, including, but not limited to, serving tables, bussing tables, room set ups * Conduct daily and regular meetings with the team * Assist Banquet Manager conduct Quarterly Dialogues with department associates * Attend meetings as required or in absence of Banquet Manager * Provide ongoing training and development to all positions * Ensure associates are trained in the safe work procedures associated with all of their tasks * Promote safety awareness to associates and demonstrate that safe job performance is the number one priority * Ensure compliance with WRS’s Occupational Health and Safety Program and the Regulation of WorkSafe BC * Ensure associates report any unsafe conditions, practices or injuries as soon as possible and take appropriate actions * Set a good safety example * All other duties as assigned Skills & Experience: * Must be able to build and maintain credibility and relationships with customers (internal and external) * Strong organization and planning skills * Strong working knowledge of MS Office applications (Word, Excel, Publisher), CI and Lightspeed * Previous POS and lightspeed understanding * Proven ability in managing time is critical; must be able to plan and execute effectively and efficiently * Management skills * Previous experience in a similar role in a similar size/type of property * Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, and a passion for dealing with and emotionally connecting with others * Knowledge of hotel food and beverage operations * Knowledge of food and alcoholic beverages * Excellent problem-solving skills * Knowledge of food service techniques and cost controls General Requirements: * Serving it Right Certificate * Food Safe Level 1 is an asset * Diploma or certificate in Hotel/Restaurant Management or the equivalent is preferred * Must be able to stand and exert well-paced mobility for up to 8 hours in length. * Must be able to safely lift up to 20 lbs. on a regular basis * Ability to provide a satisfactory criminal record check Health & Safety: Health & Safety is at our core! * Daily stretches and movement to get you ready for your day * Safety orientations to ensure you feel safe at work * Proud to be COR certified – an occupational health and safety accreditation program that verifies a fully implemented safety and health program which meets national standards. * Monthly safety committee meetings You're welcome here Our highest priority is making you feel as welcome as our guests.
