Job details
The Hydrovac Operator is an integral part of WesTower’s Wireline operations teams who answers directly to the project Construction Manager. Operating in a utility construction environment, the successful candidate will primarily focus on the safe operation of hydrovac equipment and be ready to pivot to general labor tasks when required. This position demands a self-motivated individual who can work with minimal direction, travel regularly, and safely handle heavy lifting, including equipment and materials weighing more than 100 pounds. Ultimately, the operator is expected to maintain all operational safety standards, uphold professional company standards, and collaborate positively with the broader team to deliver excellent results for our customers. Core Competencies Safe and Efficient utility excavation Safe and Efficient Equipment Operation Autonomous Reliability and Integrity Hazard Mitigation and Safety Compliance Strong Communication and Reporting Skills Knowledge of Slurry and Spoils processing/dumping regulations Requirements Valid AB Class 3 license required (Class 1 preferred) Valid AB Ground Disturbance II certification Minimum 1 year working in utility build environments as a hydrovac operator Job Responsibilities Excellent work habits and demonstrated ability to perform the job well. Values being on time and holding others to the same. Able to safely handle and carry ladders and weights of 100+ pounds. Enjoy working outdoors year-round. Values meet the company standards of appearance and demeanor always. Able to work alone with minimal direction. Comfortable pulling and backing up trailers. A good attitude and works well with other company employees and management in providing excellent results for our customers. Someone who recognizes that travel will be required. A can-do attitude that recognizes when hydrovac work is not required, as an Operator, you are ready to assist with other job aspects, including general labor. Valid AB Class 3 License with Class 1 preferred. Valid Ground Disturbance training certification. Minimum of 1 year of hydrovac operating experience in a utility construction environment. Work Conditions Use of hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear. Stand, walk, sit, climb, or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. Lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Occasionally lift and/or move more than 100 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
