Youth Volunteer - Skating Programs

Skating Program Volunteers assist leaders with preparing and implementing a variety of skating programs for children ages 3-5Y or 6-12Y. Volunteers are required to skate and should be comfortable on the ice. Responsibilities: * Review lesson plans to be aware of the activities scheduled for that day * Welcome participants and patrons as they enter the space or program * Actively participate in program activities and interact positively with children * Assist participants in developing and practicing new skills * Aid in the set-up and take-down of equipment associated with the program * Supervise participants and ensure they are following safety rules and guidelines both on and off the ice * Know how to assist in emergency procedures * Model appropriate behavior: listen to the leader(s), sit with the group during instructions, etc. * Help with demonstrations or instructions as requested by the leader(s) * Give positive feedback to participants * Check messages and communicate regularly with supervisors * Log hours on the appropriate time sheet * Arrive on time and ready for shift in proper uniform, including a CSA-certified winter helmet and properly fitted skates (volunteer must provide their own) Qualities: * Willing to learn new processes and follow procedures * Enthusiastic and a positive role model for children * Comfortable and confident on the ice Work Term: * September – March. * Evenings and weekends * 2 shifts/week. Shifts are 2-3 hours long. Qualifications/ Skills Required: * Between 13 and 17 years of age * Completion of minimum of Emergency First Aid with CPR C or Lifesaving Society Bronze Medallion Certification * Completion of Volunteer Training – Provided by Westside * Proficient skating ability

Volunteers assist leaders in preparing and implementing skating programs for children while ensuring participant safety on and off the ice. They are responsible for interacting positively with children, helping with skill development, and managing equipment setup and takedown.

Candidates must be between 13 and 17 years old and possess proficient skating abilities. Required certifications include Emergency First Aid with CPR C or Lifesaving Society Bronze Medallion.
