Job summary
Skating Program Volunteers assist leaders with preparing and implementing a variety of skating programs for children ages 3-5Y or 6-12Y. Volunteers are required to skate and should be comfortable on the ice. Responsibilities: * Review lesson plans to be aware of the activities scheduled for that day * Welcome participants and patrons as they enter the space or program * Actively participate in program activities and interact positively with children * Assist participants in developing and practicing new skills * Aid in the set-up and take-down of equipment associated with the program * Supervise participants and ensure they are following safety rules and guidelines both on and off the ice * Know how to assist in emergency procedures * Model appropriate behavior: listen to the leader(s), sit with the group during instructions, etc. * Help with demonstrations or instructions as requested by the leader(s) * Give positive feedback to participants * Check messages and communicate regularly with supervisors * Log hours on the appropriate time sheet * Arrive on time and ready for shift in proper uniform, including a CSA-certified winter helmet and properly fitted skates (volunteer must provide their own) Qualities: * Willing to learn new processes and follow procedures * Enthusiastic and a positive role model for children * Comfortable and confident on the ice Work Term: * September – March. * Evenings and weekends * 2 shifts/week. Shifts are 2-3 hours long. Qualifications/ Skills Required: * Between 13 and 17 years of age * Completion of minimum of Emergency First Aid with CPR C or Lifesaving Society Bronze Medallion Certification * Completion of Volunteer Training – Provided by Westside * Proficient skating ability
