Role Overview We have a great opportunity for someone to join us as a District Sales Manager based remotely in Western Canada, covering new and existing customers across Canada. The role will be responsible for generating new business and managing existing business relationships and being the primary contact for distribution and dealer relationships, serving customers with a primary focus on the beef industry, alongside dairy and feed mill operations in the region. The position will build robust customer relationships to achieve commercial goals in alignment with company objectives. Position Title: Business area: Liquid Products Division: Westway Feed Products Location: Alberta, Canada Position Type: Full-time Schedule: Remote Business Overview Westway Feed Products is North America’s largest manufacturer of liquid supplements for livestock. Additionally, we produce feed mill products, dried molasses and industrial products. The core concept of Westway’s business is to utilize co-products from other industries and convert them into safe, high-quality, cost effective, livestock feed supplements. While Westway’s primary ingredient for many of our products is molasses, we also incorporate other co-products. The concept of utilizing these co-products is the foundation of our sustainability platform. Today, Westway operates 22 production facilities across the United States, Canada and Mexico. Our geographic reach allows for products to be developed according to environmental and production system variations across the country. Westway, a division within ED&F Man, is owned by Hartree Partners, LP a leading global merchant commodities firm facilitating the flow of energy, metals, agriculture, and environmental products across the full commodity supply chain, connecting producers and consumers. Hartree was founded in 1997, is jointly owned by senior management and funds managed by Oaktree Capital Management, LP, and employs around 5,000 individuals worldwide. This position will be home-based, ideally in the state of Alberta, and will require regular travel to customers and our manufacturing location in Lethbridge. Key Accountabilities: Drive new liquid feed business development while serving as the primary contact for key customers within beef, dairy and feed mill accounts. Maintain and grow customer relationships through regular visits, appointments and consistent travel across the territory. Prepare product pricing, credit terms and sales contracts within established margin guidelines. Provide technical support and resolve customer issues by coordinating with distributors, production facilities and internal teams. Support distributors and dealers with sales guidance on our key product offerings, alongside holding technical discussions with nutritionists. Identify and pursue new business opportunities, building a strong pipeline of prospective customers. Assist with equipment allocation and resolve related customer and distributor issues. Coordinate customer orders and collaborate with production facilities to ensure accurate and timely delivery. Manage monthly customer pricing to maintain competitiveness and profitability. Develop and execute strategic sales plans aligned with company goals while controlling expenses within budget. Prepare and achieve annual sales budgets, contributing to forecasting and performance target setting. Generate reports on sales activity, customer growth opportunities, and territory plans. Communicate customer needs and order requirements with production teams to support efficient fulfilment Provide consumption data and reports to internal stakeholders, including nutritionists. Monitor market trends and competitor activity, recommending actions to maintain a competitive position. Support collections by working with customers on payments and schedules. Maintain accurate customer and sales data in company systems. Represent the company professionally, maintaining strong relationships and confidentiality. Participate in training, industry events and team collaboration to support business objectives. Proactively solve problems, communicate effectively and ensure compliance with safety and regulatory requirements. Skills and Experience 5+ years sales experience within the dairy, beef, feed mill or feed distribution industry. Bachelors degree educated in the field of animal or dairy science, a Masters Degree, MBA or PhD would be desirable. Solid knowledge of marketing principles and the ability to apply sales and marketing concepts to drive business growth. Strong analytical skills with the ability to research markets, customers and industry data to effectively manage accounts and increase sales. Proficient in basic financial concepts, resulting in the ability to incorporate favorable terms during negotiations. Ability to interpret business information, including technical documents, financial reports and regulatory guidelines. Excellent communication and presentation skills, to engage effectively with customers, colleagues and management. Strong organizational skills and attention to detail, with the ability to manage multiple priorities efficiently. Ability to prepare reports, correspondence and business documentation clearly and accurately. Professional interpersonal skills with the ability to build and maintain effective working relationships. Proficiency in computer systems and relevant business software. Strong problem-solving abilities, with the capacity to analyze issues, interpret data and apply sound judgment in decision-making. Highly self-motivated, able to work independently with minimal supervision while maintaining accountability and performance standards.
