Development Accountant $70K- $80K + Benefits Toronto, ON (Fully Onsite) Our client, an established real estate development company, is seeking a Development Accountant to join their Development Accounting team. The team is looking for someone who is proactive, detail-oriented, and motivated to work in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment. Candidates with experience in real estate development and/or property accounting will be strongly preferred. Key Responsibilities Manage full-cycle accounting for an assigned portfolio of land development companies, including journal entries, reconciliations, and trial balance reviews. Prepare monthly bank and loan reconciliations, including related interest calculations. Review and process accounts payable and receivable, including invoice coding and vendor management. Prepare journal entries related to land purchases, land sales, and cost recoveries. Monitor project costs, job costing, and cost allocations. Track and reconcile lot discharges, house closings, and letters of credit. Prepare intercompany reconciliations and monthly financial reporting for internal and external stakeholders. Monitor development project cash flow and prepare cash flow forecasts. Prepare funding draws and analyze loan and letter of credit utilization. Assist with joint venture accounting, including cash calls, distributions, and equity reconciliations. Support HST returns, audits, and other financial reporting requirements. Assist with ad hoc accounting projects and financial analysis. Qualifications Minimum 3 years of full-cycle accounting experience within real estate development and/or property accounting. Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Business, or a related field. Understanding of joint ventures, partnerships, and other business arrangements. Experience with cash flow analysis, forecasting, and budgeting. Strong understanding of general ledger accounting, reconciliations, and financial reporting. Experience with development project costing and financing is an asset. Advanced Excel skills and strong proficiency in Microsoft Office. Newstar experience is considered an asset. CPA designation completed or nearing completion is considered an asset. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with excellent attention to detail. Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines in a fast-paced environment. Excellent communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively across different departments.
