Senior Development Accountant $110K–$115K + Bonus Toronto, ON (Fully Onsite) Our client, an established real estate development company, is seeking a Senior Development Accountant to join their accounting and finance team. Reporting to the VP of Accounting and Financial Controller, this is an excellent opportunity for an accounting professional with development and construction experience to take ownership of project-level accounting while working closely with the development, construction, and asset management teams. The team is looking for someone with strong industry experience who is motivated to continue developing their career. Candidates with experience across real estate development and construction will be strongly preferred. Key Responsibilities Manage accounting and financial reporting for active real estate development and construction projects. Review and monitor development and construction costs, ensuring appropriate project and cost-code allocation. Maintain and reconcile work-in-progress (WIP) schedules. Prepare construction draw requests and supporting packages for lenders. Work closely with lenders and cost consultants throughout the construction draw process. Review contractor and consultant invoices against project budgets, contracts, and holdback requirements. Maintain project budgets and prepare budget-to-actual variance analysis. Track construction loan balances, interest reserves, and development financing requirements. Maintain construction and development contracts, commitments, amendments, and change orders. Prepare project and contract cost reporting, including committed costs, amounts billed, retention, and remaining balances. Work closely with the development, construction, and asset management teams on project accounting matters. Support accounting for property acquisitions and dispositions. Assist with quarterly and annual financial reporting and external audit requirements. Qualifications Previous accounting experience within real estate development and/or construction. Strong understanding of development and construction project accounting. Experience with construction draws and lender reporting. Experience managing project budgets, costs, WIP schedules, and reconciliations. Experience working with construction contracts, commitments, change orders, and holdbacks. Yardi Voyager experience. Strong Excel skills. CPA designation is not required; candidates currently pursuing their CPA, particularly those in the later stages, are encouraged to apply. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with excellent attention to detail. Ability to work cross-functionally with development, construction, asset management, lenders, and other external stakeholders. Strong organizational and communication skills. Requirements
