Job Title: Environment, Health & Safety Assistant Reports to: Manager, Environment, Health and Safety Type: Temporary, Part-Time (Term ending December 31, 2026) Closing Date: August 24, 2026 The Opportunity Reporting to the Manager, Environment, Health and Safety, the Environment, Health & Safety Assistant provides administrative and technical support for WAA’s environmental and occupational health and safety (EHS) programs and processes. This role collects and maintains EHS data and documentation, tracks corrective actions, supports training and awareness initiatives, participates in inspections and workplace observations, and escalates non-routine or high-risk matters to the appropriate EHS professional. The successful candidate is organized, detail-oriented and collaborative, with an interest in environmental and workplace safety and the ability to maintain accurate records, coordinate routine activities and follow established processes. Responsibilities include: Support the implementation and ongoing maintenance of environmental and occupational health and safety programs and processes Assist with updating programs, procedures, safe work practices, forms, checklists and guidance materials Track corrective and preventive actions, request status updates and flag overdue or incomplete items Research emerging EHS risks, best practices and legislative changes and prepare briefings Support follow-up related to incidents, near misses and non-conformances under the direction of EHS staff Collect, enter, verify and organize environmental and safety data Maintain inspection, sampling, training, hazardous-material, Safety Data Sheet and corrective-action records Compile metrics, charts, dashboards and status reports and identify missing, inconsistent or overdue data Coordinate training logistics, attendance records, materials, catering, room or virtual-session requirements and follow-up Assist in developing safety talks, posters, alerts, handouts, presentations and environmental awareness resources Support EHS campaigns, events, exercises and committee activities Follow up with employees, tenants, contractors and vendors to obtain information or confirm completion of required actions Participate in environmental and safety inspections and workplace observations, accurately record conditions and findings and escalate hazards or unusual conditions Perform other related duties and projects as assigned in support of safety, environmental stewardship and continuous improvement Selection Criteria include: Completion of at least the first year of a recognized post-secondary program in environmental science, environmental technology, occupational health and safety or a related discipline; equivalent relevant training or experience may be considered Foundational knowledge of environmental and occupational health and safety legislation, management systems, inspections, environmental sampling, hazardous materials and safe work practices Strong Microsoft Office, data-entry, digital document-management and organizational skills Strong attention to detail and the ability to review data for accuracy and completeness and identify missing, inconsistent or overdue information Effective written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills, with the ability to work collaboratively and coordinate information with internal and external stakeholders Ability to manage assigned work, prioritize routine deadlines and follow established procedures, checklists and guidance Ability to maintain the confidentiality and security of sensitive information and records Ability to work in facilities, operational areas and outdoors as required and to wear assigned personal protective equipment Work with us!
