Position Overview The Pan Am Clinic is currently seeking a Unit Clerk for the Ambulatory Care Clinic. Reporting to the Manager of Ambulatory Care, the incumbent is responsible for providing clerical duties as well as meeting the departments' expectations. Responsibilities: Receives and registers patients to clinic, ensuring appropriate documentation is completed. Transcribes, processes and implements physicians' orders as required. Acts as communication link for the clinic, answering telephone calls, determining urgency and forwarding calls or taking and relaying messages. Obtains, assembles and maintains charts. Performs a variety of tasks pre-and-post visit to ensure patient care. Maintains unit supplies and performs other miscellaneous duties as required. Experience Previous related work experience preferred. Education (Degree/Diploma/Certificate) Completion of a high school or equivalent program of studies required. Successful completion of a recognized Unit Clerk course required. Medical Terminology required. Qualifications and Skills Minimum keyboarding speed of 30 wpm required. Must communicate fluently in written and spoken English. Must have good interpersonal and organizational skills. Must be able to function effectively in a stressful environment with frequent interruptions. Ability to work effectively as a team member. Demonstrated knowledge and experience maintaining a filing system. Physical Requirements Must be able to function effectively in a stressful environment with frequent interruptions. This term position may end earlier as outlined in your collective agreement. This position requires a current satisfactory Criminal Records Check (including Vulnerable Sector Search), Child Abuse Registry Check and Adult Abuse Registry Check as conditions of employment. The successful candidate will be responsible for any service charges incurred. A security check is considered current if it was obtained no more than six (6) months prior to the start of employment. Please note that an employee is not permitted to hold two or more positions across the WRHA legal entity that combine to equal more than 1.0 EFT.
