Type: Replacement An exciting opportunity as a Biostatistician II exists in the Women’s College Hospital for Health System Solutions and Virtual Care, reporting to the Principal Investigator and Manager of the Implementation Science team The Women’s College Hospital Institute for Health System Solutions and Virtual Care (WIHV) aims to improve heath by working to develop, implement and evaluate innovations in clinical care and policy. Our philosophy is to engage and collaborate with all players in health care to deliver tangible solutions that improve the health system as a whole. Our goal is to inspire innovation and enable Ontario’s most promising leaders to transform their ideas into practical, scalable solutions. A major facet of this work is in the area of Appropriateness of Care. Several large-scale evaluation studies are ongoing to further knowledge in this area. Summary of Duties, but not limited to: Create complex data collection plan and perform complex statistical modelling using various statistical modelling software Advise and consult on advanced statistical methods, data analysis, and study design Coordinate necessary data flow both internally and externally with collaborators Develop and maintain databases and registries Act as a resource implementing and coordinating all aspects of data collection, including database creation, with a focus on implementing the evaluation of the national Choosing Wisely Canada (CWC) campaign Provides statistical oversight to studies and assures adequate quality and consistency with project requirements Advises internal and external teams on matters concerning data and data collection; provides support materials such as randomization lists, sample size and power calculations, and reliability assessments Leads the development, design, and evaluation of new projects; assesses feasibility of proposed work and plans and analyzes pilot data Uses extensive methodological expertise (including advanced knowledge of study design and statistical concepts) to assist the investigator with all steps of the research process including the development of research protocols and strategies Leads and/or assists with the writing of grant proposals, graphics, papers, reports, and manuscripts for publication Leads the write-up of manuscript sections related to methods, data reporting, and data interpretation Develops and delivers presentations to broad audiences (federal and provincial government ministries and agencies, media, etc.) on important research findings Assist with ethics applications and renewal submissions Coordinates/liaises with external organizations (e.g., ICES, CIHI) on collaborative research projects Communicates and manages relationships with external analysts, research assistants, and stakeholders/funders during all project stages; presents findings to stakeholders Leads and supervises entry-level staff and graduate students; effectively mentors non-statistical peers on statistical methodology and provides appropriate support and training to junior statisticians and research assistants Effectively coordinates tasks and reviews deliverables so that projects are delivered on time with high quality Advises on, and manages, budget and resourcing for specific research analyses As a role model and champion you will work to identify and integrate safe, best practices into daily activities to foster the delivery of safe and exemplary care The responsibilities described above are representative and are not to be construed as all-inclusive. Qualifications/Skills: Master’s degree in Biostatistics or a relevant field (e.g., Clinical Epidemiology, Health Economics, or other health-related discipline) 5-7 years’ experience in progressively responsible, and related experience, working in clinical epidemiology, health economics, or other health-related discipline in a research environment Proficiency and experience with administrative and registry data sets and with biostatstical analysis Outstanding written and verbal communication skills Knowledge of and proficiency in relevant computer programs such as SAS and STATA Demonstrated ability to take initiative on projects, and to work independently Excellent written and verbal communication skills Excellent organizational, prioritization, and time management skills Ability to multi-task while maintaining attention to detail Strong interpersonal and customer service skills; demonstrated ability to work effectively in a team environment with a wide variety of people at different levels Strong problem solving and analytical skills; uses good judgment Good understanding of research design and research ethics Ability to maintain confidentiality and adhere to the PHIPA Ability to perform duties in a professional and courteous manner and produce high quality work while meeting deadlines in accordance to WCH standards Good work and attendance record required Demonstrated WCH vision mission and values Professional behavior and communication that meets the standards of the professional regulatory college or association, as applicable, and the standards of Women’s College Hospital This position plays a critical role in acting as an advocate for safety and will demonstrate principles, practices and processes that will optimize a safe environment for all Why Choose Us?
