Technical Product Manager Job Description This role combines technical program management and product management to deliver new consumer-facing payment products and drive global membership growth. You will define and own a multi-year product vision and roadmap, manage complex, high-impact projects, and act as a bridge between engineering, payments infrastructure, and cross-functional business stakeholders. The position focuses on building secure, high-performance, and highly available payment experiences, while influencing strategy, making informed tradeoffs, and ensuring timely and reliable delivery of customer-facing products. Responsibilities Own and develop a three-year product vision and roadmap for consumer-facing payment products and membership growth initiatives. Lead end-to-end delivery of technical programs, from initial concept and business case through design, development, launch, and customer deployment. Act as a bridge between payment services infrastructure and internal customers, including engineering, design, program owners, and executive stakeholders. Define clear product requirements and translate business needs into detailed technical specifications for engineering teams. Plan and manage project delivery timelines, ensuring high standards of security, performance, availability, and reliability. Design and oversee customer-facing websites, features, and experiences that support payment flows and membership acquisition. Provide escalation management by identifying risks early, resolving issues quickly, and communicating impacts and mitigation plans to stakeholders. Anticipate and make tradeoffs between business priorities and technical constraints, ensuring balanced decisions that optimize customer and business outcomes. Work closely with technical and non-technical business owners to drive deployment and adoption of new products and features. Manage and prioritize product backlogs and roadmaps, aligning them with strategic goals and stakeholder expectations. Participate in and contribute to engineering discussions around technology decisions, architecture tradeoffs, and long-term technical strategy for the product. Collaborate with program and page owners, multiple engineering teams, design, and executive teams to drive member acquisition across various surfaces and channels. Use data to drive decisions by analyzing product performance, customer behavior, and experiment results using SQL, Excel, and other analytical tools. Represent and advocate for a diverse set of customers and stakeholders during executive-level prioritization and planning sessions. Apply principles such as diving deep into data, working backwards from the customer, and earning stakeholder trust to guide product and program decisions. Monitor and report on key performance indicators and program health, providing transparent updates on progress, risks, and outcomes. Continuously refine processes and workflows to improve delivery efficiency, quality, and cross-functional collaboration. Operate effectively in an entrepreneurial, highly matrixed environment, adapting quickly to changing priorities and new opportunities. Essential Skills 5+ years of experience in product management, program management, product marketing, business development, or technology, with a focus on technical products or online services. 3–5 years of product management experience working closely with technical teams to build customer-facing products. Proven track record of successfully delivering software products from conception through business case development and customer deployment. Experience owning and driving roadmap strategy and definition for complex products or services. Experience managing technical products or online services and collaborating closely with engineering teams. Ability to contribute meaningfully to engineering discussions around technology decisions and strategy related to the product. Experience representing and advocating for a variety of critical customers and stakeholders during executive-level prioritization and planning. Strong ability to work with both technical and non-technical business owners to drive outcomes and get things done. Excellent written and oral communication skills, including the ability to clearly articulate complex topics to diverse audiences. Demonstrated ability to anticipate and make tradeoffs between business needs and technical constraints. Experience performing statistical analysis of data using SQL, Excel, and other analytical tools. Familiarity with Linux, Java, and HTML, sufficient to understand technical challenges and constraints and support informed decision-making. Comfort working with technical teams (including science and engineering teams) rather than purely business-focused teams. Ability to understand system design concepts, technical flows, and tradeoffs, even without directly coding or designing systems. Strong product and program management skills, including planning, prioritization, and stakeholder management. Results-oriented mindset with the ability to thrive in an entrepreneurial, cross-functional, highly matrixed environment. Additional Skills & Qualifications Undergraduate or graduate degree in computer science or a related field, plus 3–5 years of industry experience as a software developer or technical lead. Experience in the payments or mobile payments space is a plus. Good track record of working effectively across different groups in an organization. Entrepreneurial spirit and a strong sense of ownership over product direction and outcomes. Experience launching customer-facing products that drive membership or customer acquisition. Familiarity with principles such as diving deep into data, working backwards from the customer, and building trust with stakeholders. Comfort operating with a high degree of autonomy while aligning with broader organizational strategy. Experience collaborating with design, program owners, and executive teams on high-visibility initiatives. Work Environment The role sits within a dynamic payments organization focused on building innovative, consumer-facing payment products and driving global membership growth. You will work closely with multiple engineering teams, program and page owners, design, and executive stakeholders in a highly cross-functional and matrixed environment. The position emphasizes collaboration with technical teams, including software engineers and potentially science teams, to deliver secure, high-performance, and highly available online services. You will regularly engage in technical discussions, roadmap planning, and data-driven decision-making using tools such as SQL and Excel, as well as working with technologies like Linux, Java, and HTML at a conceptual level. The environment encourages an entrepreneurial mindset, high ownership, and the ability to operate autonomously while coordinating with diverse stakeholders across surfaces and channels.
