Accounting & Payroll Specialist Location: Toronto, ON, primarily remote with occasional onsite attendance, approximately twice per month Compensation: $25–$30/hour Language: Strong written and verbal English communication skills Duration: 2-month contract, 20 hours per week, with potential for full-time hours, extension, or permanent employment About the Opportunity Altis Recruitment is partnering with a member-based regulatory organization to hire an Accounting & Payroll Specialist. This is an excellent opportunity for someone who enjoys variety and wants to play an important role within a small, collaborative finance team. Working closely with an approachable Finance Manager, you will provide hands-on support across accounting and payroll while helping maintain stability during a period of organizational change. The organization is also preparing to implement a new membership management platform, providing valuable exposure to system implementation and process improvement. For the right candidate, this contract may expand into full-time hours or lead to a longer-term permanent opportunity. Your Responsibilities You’ll process accounts payable and accounts receivable transactions while maintaining complete and accurate financial records. You’ll complete bank and account reconciliations, review bank statements, and prepare journal entries in QuickBooks. You’ll administer biweekly payroll through Ceridian for approximately 100 salaried employees and council members. You’ll serve as a point of contact for payroll-related questions and support employees across Ontario, Alberta, and Quebec. You’ll assist with DocuSign administration and other day-to-day finance processes. You’ll support the financial side of an upcoming membership platform implementation and help improve accounting processes as payments become more automated. Skills and Qualifications 2–3+ years of experience supporting accounting operations and payroll administration. Hands-on experience with QuickBooks and Ceridian payroll. Knowledge of accounts payable, accounts receivable, reconciliations, journal entries, and payroll processing. Strong technical aptitude, with previous system implementation or process improvement experience considered an asset. Experience within a non-profit, regulatory, association, or member-based organization is an asset. Strong attention to detail, organization, and written and verbal communication skills.
