About the role Canadian Blood Services is looking for a Temporary full-time (Donor Centre Associate) to join our dynamic Collections team in our AB-Lethbridge donor centre. The Collections team is responsible for supporting Canadian Blood Services by collecting donor blood, and blood components in a safe manner to provide patients with lifesaving products every day. In this role, you will perform phlebotomy in the collection process in accordance with health and safety standards. You will work face-to-face with our donors, team members, and volunteers providing them with safe and quality service during each stage of the collection processFormula for success Delivers training to meet identified learning needs of colleagues and new hires to the Centre. In collaboration with RN/Team Lead, maintains training records and documentation associated with training and development for each staff member, supporting operational requirements and audits as needed. In the absence of or in collaboration with the RN/Team Lead, provides guidance to staff to ensure that processes are performed effectively, efficiently, and safely. Fosters and promotes a positive working environment in which staff feel empowered, challenged, and engaged. Greets and assists all plasma donors as they progress through the donation process in an engaging and positive manner. Assists with various recruitment/retention initiatives designed to further grow or engage the donor base. Conducts confidential donor screening and obtains donor consent. Performs venepuncture according to established standards. Contributes to a culture of continuous improvement with the donation centre. Desired education and skills Post-secondary level education in a relevant discipline from a recognized institution preferably in science/health related field of study. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered Completion of accredited training program in phlebotomy or one-year related experience. An equivalent combination of education, training and experience may be considered. Minimum 3 years of progressive experience working with the public, particularly in a high customer-focused environment. A deep understanding of plasma operations processes, policies, procedural requirements and equipment Knowledge of and experience working with current Good Manufacturing Practices and Good Documentation Practices. Knowledge of continuous improvement processes and practices Demonstrates great ability to connect with clients and maintains a customize relationship with them Builds and fosters positive relationships with peers, manager and other plasma operations team members. Basic computer skills and the ability to learn new systems and programs. Previous knowledge of Microsoft Word and Outlook are considered assets. Excellent interpersonal skills, team building and ability to collaborate in a multi- team setting Must be detail-oriented and capable of working in a highly regulated environment Ability to work under pressure to meet demands of the job Must be able to manage multiple priorities and multitask The ability to exercise judgment, tact, diplomacy and strict confidentiality are mandatory Fosters and promotes a positive public image Ability to communicate in more than one language is an asset and enhances the quality of donor interactions. You must be flexible to accommodate assigned shifts which are based on operational needs; length of shifts varies according to the event which takes place at Canadian Blood Services fixed donor center.
