You will be responsible for providing process engineering support to the Upgrading and Utilities team to ensure successful continuous operation at our Horizon Oil Sands plant. You will have the unique opportunity to work with different teams within the operating environment to ensure safe and reliable production. We welcome applications from both Process Engineer-in-Training (EIT) candidates and experienced Professional Engineers (P.Eng.). The level of the position will be determined based on the successful candidate's qualifications and experience. * Job location: Horizon Oil Sands - Fort McMurray, Alberta * Shift schedule: 4x3, 10-hour shifts, Monday - Thursday * Safety sensitive position: Yes * Application deadline: October 20, 2026 Key Accountabilities: * Proactively monitor and troubleshoot plant performance to meet daily production target, achieve product quality specifications and comply with regulatory requirements * Provide operational guidelines to plant operators to maximize plant performance, manage equipment operational issues, execute equipment and process test plans, as well as manage process risks associated with abnormal process situations or upsets * Follow Canadian Natural’s Management of Change (MOC) process to champion process changes required to improve plant production, reliability and process safety * Analyze plant performance, monitor KPIs, and recommend operating parameters and strategy adjustments to improve results * Prepare weekly/monthly reports for the assigned process unit, including performance metrics, trends, correlations, findings, process project progress, and recommendations, as well as regulatory reporting requirement * Support plant reliability initiatives, including debottlenecking, sustaining capital projects, turnarounds, and equipment inspections * Maintain a strong commitment to health, safety, and environmental compliance by following safe work practices, regulatory requirements, incident reporting procedures, and PPE standards What You Bring to the Role: * Bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering with EIT designation or eligibility for registration with APEGA, or P.Eng. designation for experienced candidates * Process EIT: 2-5 years of relevant engineering experience * Process Engineer: 5 -15 years of process engineering experience in an industrial operating environment * Previous work experience in the Oil Sands/Refining industry is preferred * Strong analytical, problem solving, and troubleshooting skills * Proficient in using HYSYS, Pro Max, HTRI and AFT * Ability to communicate complex concepts to audience with varied levels of technical backgrounds.
