Application Developer – Sr Python Engineer Start Date: ASAP Duration: 1 year Location : Toronto, ON Hybrid: 4 days on site About the Role We are seeking a highly experienced Senior Python Engineer to join a large technology team working on a strategic vendor integration project. The ideal candidate will have 10+ years of software engineering experience with strong hands-on Python development in enterprise environments. This role combines Python microservices, API development, cloud-native engineering, event-driven architecture, and modern data engineering. You will work closely with technology, platform, security, and business teams to build secure, scalable, reusable, and production-ready solutions. What You'll Do Design, develop, and maintain scalable Python microservices and APIs using FastAPI, REST/gRPC, Docker, Kubernetes, Redis, and Kafka. Build RESTful APIs, internal platform APIs, data ingestion APIs, event-driven APIs, batch processing services, and authentication/authorization APIs. Develop and optimize data engineering solutions using Python, PySpark, Azure Databricks, Delta Lake, ADLS, Azure Data Factory, Airflow, Azure SQL, Unity Catalog, and SQL. Design solutions capable of processing high-volume enterprise workloads while maintaining performance, reliability, and scalability. Develop reusable frameworks, shared services, automation utilities, orchestration patterns, and engineering standards. Implement secure solutions aligned with enterprise requirements for authentication, authorization, testing, monitoring, compliance, and operational reliability. Troubleshoot production issues, perform performance tuning, support releases, and contribute to production-readiness activities. Develop and maintain automated testing and quality practices. Collaborate with engineering, platform, security, business, and other technology teams to translate complex requirements into practical technical solutions. Participate in knowledge sharing, technical documentation, code reviews, and continuous improvement initiatives. Leverage modern AI-assisted engineering tools and practices where appropriate to improve development, testing, documentation, and productivity. Required Qualifications Bachelor's degree or higher in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or a related technical discipline. 10+ years of software engineering experience with substantial hands-on Python development in enterprise environments. Strong experience developing Python-based microservices and APIs. Hands-on experience with: Python FastAPI REST/gRPC Docker Kubernetes Redis Kafka Strong data engineering experience using: PySpark Azure Databricks Delta Lake ADLS Azure Data Factory Airflow Azure SQL Unity Catalog SQL Experience delivering secure, production-ready enterprise applications. Understanding of authentication, authorization, testing, monitoring, compliance, and operational reliability. Strong understanding of cloud-native and distributed application architectures. Excellent troubleshooting, analytical, and problem-solving skills. Preferred Qualifications Experience designing scalable microservices or data pipelines handling high-volume enterprise workloads. Experience creating reusable internal frameworks, shared services, or developer platform capabilities. Experience with event-driven architecture and asynchronous processing. Experience with AI-assisted development tools such as GitHub Copilot, Microsoft Copilot, or AI-based engineering agents. Experience working with enterprise security and platform teams. Strong communication skills with the ability to work effectively across engineering, platform, security, and business stakeholders. Experience in financial services or other highly regulated enterprise environments is an advantage.
