Food Banks Mississauga is looking to replace Directors in January following term completions. Board Directors are critical in enabling Food Banks Mississauga to achieve its vision. Purpose Board members are the fiduciaries who steer Food Banks Mississauga towards a sustainable future by adopting sound ethical and legal governance and financial management policies, as well as by making sure Food Banks Mississauga has adequate resources to advance its mission. Board members also contribute to the organization’s culture, strategic focus, effectiveness, and financial sustainability, as well as serving as ambassadors and advocates. Authority Individual board members have no authority to approve actions by FBM, to direct staff, or to speak on behalf of FBM unless given such authority by the board. Time Commitment 20-30 hours a year, depending on role, including board meetings, preparing for board meetings, participating in committees and attending special events. Quarterly board meetings are on Wednesday evenings at 6pm. Term of Office Two-year term, renewable twice Responsibilities Determine Food Banks Mississauga’s Mission and Purpose Select and Evaluate the Performance of the CEO Strategic and Organizational Planning Fiduciary Oversight and Financial Management Enhance the Image of Food Banks Mississauga Assess its Own Responsibility Expectations of Individual Board Members Know the organization's vision, policies, programs, and needs Understand the organization's financial statements and prepare for each meeting by reading board reports, financial statements, and other background material Serve as advocates and ambassadors for the organization and work to secure financial resources and partnerships to advance Food Banks Mississauga's vision Support Food Banks Mississauga through a personal financial donation that is among the Director’s top three charities supported Help to identify personal/professional connections that can benefit Food Banks Mississauga’s fundraising and reputational standing and help to influence public policy in support of Food Banks Mississauga Board Member Experience We Are Seeking In all cases, ideal new Board Members will reflect the very diverse nature of our vibrant community. Fundamental Experience that all Directors must have: Previous involvement on a Board of Directors Business/Financial Acumen Strategic Planning experience Senior-level leadership experience in a community or corporate environment Functional Experience - We have very specific skill sets/experience that we are looking to add to our Board this year: Human Resources Operations/Logistics IT Please submit your resume and a cover letter outlining why you would like to join Food Banks Mississauga's Board of Directors and what experience you would offer the organization through your volunteer service. Candidates under consideration will be contacted by the Governance & Nominations Committee for an interview. Requirements

Candidates must have previous board experience, business or financial acumen, and senior-level leadership experience. Specific functional expertise in Human Resources, Operations/Logistics, or IT is highly sought after.
