Reporting to the Payroll & Benefits Manager, the Payroll & Benefits Administrator is responsible for processing weekly and bi-weekly payrolls for salaried employees and all hourly employees across multiple union Collective Agreements. This position supports the full payroll cycle, benefits administration, and payroll reporting, while ensuring compliance with payroll legislation, Collective Agreements, and Company Policies and Procedures. RESPONSIBILITIES The duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to the following: Verify and enter daily timesheets, ensuring all information is complete and accurate; Process full cycle hourly union payroll (weekly and bi-weekly) and salary payroll (bi-weekly), including all required statutory deductions, ensuring payroll is complete and accurate; Process employee changes on a timely basis (new hires, position changes, terminations of employment, beneficiary and benefit changes) including preparation and issuance of ROE in accordance with required legislation; Respond to inquiries from customers (employees, government agencies, unions, benefit providers) in a professional and timely manner; Ensure all pay period related earnings, government statutory deductions, union dues, pension reports, and garnishments are calculated accurately and recorded including account reconciliations as required; Provide additional backup duties to the Payroll & Benefits Manager, including the preparation of monthly union dues remittances, journal entries and benefits reconciliation and payments; Prepare payroll reports and ad hoc analysis for internal stakeholders; Maintain employee payroll records and ensure compliance with all Company Policies and Procedures; Participate in the ongoing development and improvement of payroll processes and procedures QUALIFICATIONS Education and Experience Minimum 3-5 years of experience processing full-cycle payroll, in a multi-unionized environment is required. PCP certification, or in progress, is required. Completion of post-secondary accounting courses is preferred. Knowledge of Sage 300 CRE (Timberline) accounting software is preferred. Intermediate proficiency with Microsoft Excel is required. Experience processing payroll within a multi-union environment, including knowledge and understanding of collective agreements, is preferred. Skills, Knowledge and Required Competencies Strong attention to detail with excellent critical thinking and analytical skills; Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with a customer service focus. Highly self-motivated with the ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a team. Excellent organizational and time management sills, with the ability to manage competing priorities. High degree of professionalism in handling sensitive and confidential information.
