Software Developer V - client server Location: Toronto, ON Onsite Flexibility Hybrid – currently 2 days in office, transitioning to 4 days in office in the coming year Contract Details Position Type: Contract Contract Duration: 1 year from start date (with potential for extension and conversion to permanent) Pay Rate: C$70.00–C$85.00 / Hour (CAD) Shift / Schedule: Monday to Friday, 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM; occasional overtime Travel Requirements: Not required Job Summary This is a new role focused on project work and day-to-day support within a collaborative team of 16 members. The position offers a training period and provides excellent opportunities to support team members, work on a variety of projects, and thrive within a great culture. Familiarity with insurance at the bank is considered an ideal background. The contractor will not have access to any customer data, and approximately 10–15% of time is spent in meetings, with all interactions being internal. Key Responsibilities Develop new solutions as required for engineering programs and projects within assigned area Develop new features and perform unit / component test for new application development initiatives aligned to business needs and in accordance with technology architecture standards Support business enquiries and business activities through execution of small enhancements and break / fix implementations (e.g., source code changes); may also be responsible for peer code review Work with technology partners to ensure the configuration and custom components meet application requirements and performance goals Analyze the technical requirements to recommend pragmatic and sound engineering specific solutions for own area; may be involved in coding/story estimates Work with other stakeholders and internal technology partners to ensure engineering solutions meet technical direction, requirements, performance, time-to-market, and innovation goals Monitor product lifecycles, ensuring specifications and functionality support business objectives and engineering decisions, undertaking re-development where required Document and verify system components, applications, system infrastructure, security, integration, operability, and engineering related architecture designs associated with a program or project Participate in quality management reviews, in particular reviews of the designs, prototypes, and other requirements work products to ensure they fulfill the requirements Create and maintain quality code, ensure defect-free programming consistent with standards; provide code maintenance and support during testing cycles and post-production deployment and participate in reviewing peer coding Provide technical expertise during incident management, analyze incident reports and outages, perform impact assessment for incidents, and facilitate internal and external communication throughout incident resolution Participate in identifying and recommending development / testing solutions / tools in support of project / application objectives Assist in the development / maintenance of comprehensive processes for prevention of issues and participate in problem determination and timely resolution of incidents applying appropriate quality measures Required Skills Strong technical skill set – Java / Spring Boot, GitHub, and CI/CD pipelines Collaboration skills Front-end technology – Angular Good understanding of how infrastructure works Expertise in Web Application Design/Development – Java/Spring Boot Experience with Angular, Node.js Experience with Tomcat, JBoss runtime environments Experience with Web Services Design/Development – REST, SOAP, JAX-WS, JAXB2, JAX-RS, Web API Experience with Agile delivery methodology, particularly Scrum or a derivation (e.g., Product Backlog Definition, User Stories Estimation and Prioritization methodologies, Task Breakdown, Sprint Planning, Sprint Retrospective), and related tools (e.g., Confluence, JIRA) Experience with continuous integration and delivery methodologies and tooling (e.g., Maven, Nexus, Jenkins) Experience with GIT (Stash) and Bitbucket Relational DBMS proficiency (i.e., Oracle, SQL Server, and DB2) Preferred Skills Integration with Guardwire Cloud Technologies (i.e., Azure, AWS) Integration with vendor products and experience working with third-party external companies Familiarity with insurance at the bank Required Experience 8+ years of overall experience in software development Education Requirements Post-secondary education; however, experience is more important than formal degree About the Client This client is a leading financial services and banking institution operating across Canada and internationally, employing thousands of technology and IT professionals across its enterprise.
