An eligibility list may be created to fill future vacancies. Reporting to the Logistics Supervisor, the Travel Specialist (Specialist) is responsible for planning, coordinating, managing and accounting of timely and cost-effective travel for Medical Travel and Duty travel for Department of Health staff, by arranging timely, accurate and high-quality travel, accommodation and meals to a location where appropriate treatment can be provided. The Specialist is expected to be cross trained to perform either medical travel related duties or duty travel and cover for these functions during periods of peak activity and absences of other travel specialist. These will include being familiar with the Medical Travel and Duty Travel process and procedures well as arranging timely, accurate and high-quality services for employees, contractors, patients and escorts. RESPONSIBILITIES The Specialist’s main responsibilities are but are not limited to: * Verifying that travel requests are completed correctly and approved by the appropriate Nurse, Supervisor, Director, or Executive Director of Health Programs; * Amending/changing travel arrangements in response to cancellations or delay of trip(s) due to weather difficulties or changes of staff assignments; * Maintaining strict confidentiality of all traveler’s where required; * Establishing and maintaining harmonious, cooperative, effective and efficient working relationships with airlines, health facilities and other agencies to ensure the smooth functioning of the travel service and that any problems are resolved; * Participating in a stand-by on-call schedule to provide 24/7 coverage of the travel toll-free number which is used by health facilities and the public to access travel assistance outside of scheduled working hours; * Verifying each charge has the correct financial coding string and recording this data into Oracle system; * This position may require staggered shift work or perform overtime to attend to urgent or emergency travel requests. QUALIFICATIONS The knowledge, skills, and abilities required for this job are usually obtained through a high school diploma, along with one (1) year related experience. This is a Position of Trust and a satisfactory Criminal Record Check is required. The Official Languages of Nunavut are Inuktut, English and French. Knowledge of Inuit communities, culture, land,Inuit Qaujimajatuqangit, Inuktut and experience working in a northern cross-cultural environment are also considered assets.
