Job summary

Inspect formwork, granular bases, and steel reinforcement, then place, compact, level, and finish concrete to specified grades and depths. Cure, waterproof, restore, repair, resurface, or replace concrete surfaces and structures, interpret plans and specifications, and instruct apprentices.

Work setting Rural area Urban area Willing to relocate Responsibilities Tasks Check formwork, granular base and steel reinforcement materials Direct placement of concrete into forms or onto surfaces according to grade Fill hollows and remove spots on freshly poured cement Operate power vibrators to compact concrete Level top surface concrete according to grade and depth specification Impart desired finish to concrete surfaces using hand and power tools Instruct apprentices Apply hardening and sealing components to cure surfaces Waterproof, damp proof and restore surfaces Repair, resurface and replace worn or damaged sections of concrete structures Read and interpret blueprints, maps, drawings and specifications Additional information Work conditions and physical capabilities Physically demanding Handling heavy loads Bending, crouching, kneeling Attention to detail Standing for extended periods

Requirements

Requires a secondary school graduation certificate and 1 year to less than 2 years of experience. The work is physically demanding and involves handling heavy loads, bending, crouching, kneeling, standing for extended periods, and careful attention to detail.
