Job details
The Culinary Co-op Student will assist the kitchen team with daily food preparation & service, cleaning, and basic cooking tasks while gaining hands-on experience in a professional kitchen. Under the supervision of the chefs and kitchen staff, the student will learn proper food handling, sanitation, cooking techniques, and professional food presentation while gaining experience with a variety of service styles, including buffets, passed canapés, plated dinners, and chef-led action stations, all in accordance with health and safety standards. Essential Duties and Responsibilities: * Prepare, pre-cook and/or cook food products as directed. * Prepare "mise en place" (setting in place of foods, garnishes, sauces, dishes, cutlery, etc) and other products as required for high volume event space. * Clean kitchen equipment after use according to health and safety policies and procedures. * Label, date, store and rotate food and beverage products in appropriate storage areas. * Communicate effectively with all appropriate operational departments. * Reports needed maintenance, faulty equipment or accidents to the supervisor immediately. * Perform other duties as assigned or directed. Here’s how we’ll know you’ll be successful in the role: * Enrolled in a culinary program at a recognized cooking school, requiring a co-op position. * Food Safety Certification required. * Understanding of various cooking methods, ingredients, equipment and procedures. * You bring a positive attitude, a strong work ethic, and aren't afraid to ask questions or try something new. * You enjoy working as part of a team and can take direction from chefs and kitchen leaders. * You're comfortable being on your feet, working in a fast-paced environment, and helping with physical tasks like lifting up to 25 lbs (11 kg), bending, and carrying supplies. * You're flexible and ready to jump into a variety of kitchen and event experiences as part of your co-op schedule. * Most importantly, you're passionate about food and eager to gain hands-on experience that will help launch your culinary career!
