Bring your passion, your ideas, and let's do this.Description Located at the Heartland Petrochemical Complex (HPC), just north of Fort Saskatchewan, the Operations Engineer will report to the Process & Operations Engineering Manager within the Technical Services team. As a member of the Heartland team, you'll work alongside experienced professionals in a collaborative environment that values technical expertise, innovation, and professional growth. You'll have the opportunity to solve complex challenges, influence key operational decisions, lead improvement initiatives, and further develop your career while contributing to the long-term success of a world-class manufacturing facility.Key Activities and Responsibilities • Serve as a key technical resource for Operations, Maintenance, and other Technical Services groups.• Provide engineering support and expertise for the Polypropylene (PP) Plant.• Apply strong technical knowledge and sound engineering principles to complete Operations Engineering deliverables.• Provide day-to-day engineering support by analyzing process performance, evaluating operating data, and developing recommendations, business cases, and solutions for operational and plant modifications.• Lead and support Process Safety Management (PSM) initiatives, ensuring process safety risks and opportunities are identified and addressed in a timely manner.• Identify, develop, and support execution of a five-year capital plan focused on reliability improvements, operational excellence, and production optimization.• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to safely and effectively deliver projects while ensuring compliance with APEGA Professional Practice requirements and HPC's Management of Change (MOC) process.• Support incident investigations through technical analysis and participation in root cause and causal investigations.• Actively participate in safety culture initiatives, regulatory compliance programs, and internal and external audits.• Promote process engineering best practices, mentor colleagues, and enhance process knowledge across the site.• Develop into a recognized subject matter expert for Polypropylene plant processes through experience, training, and demonstrated performance.Education, Skills and Experience • Bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering.• Registered Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) with APEGA.• 5 to 7 years of directly related engineering experience.• Strong process engineering fundamentals and analytical problem-solving skills.• Ability to analyze complex operating issues and develop practical, data-driven solutions.• Excellent communication and collaboration skills with the ability to work effectively across Operations, Maintenance, and Technical Services teams. Preferred• Experience supporting operating facilities in a process manufacturing environment.• Experience in unit troubleshooting, process optimization, and operational improvement initiatives.• Direct experience with Polypropylene (PP) or Polyethylene (PE) manufacturing processes.• Strong process safety experience, including participation in risk assessments, HAZOP studies, Layers of Protection Analysis (LOPA), Safety Instrumented Systems (SIS), and other process safety management activities.
